Default FINALLY @ THE TRACK W/ MY VENTURA!

hi all, well between going through a divorce curently and low on cash i finally made it to the track with my ventura, unfortunaly the track photographer wasnt there but , the car: 71 ventura full interior, rollbar, rack, 12 bolt w/ 3:73s spool, 295 drag radials, mono leaf , caltracs, its set-up real nice, 3,690 with me in it. a th400 by dynamic w/ 9.5 ptc 3,000 stall, but a very mild motor, 455, stock 96's 9.3 to 1 comp, hurricane intalke, hco2a h/o cam .504 lift i just wanted to feel the car out, top end, brakes ect ect, timed it @ 25 degrees, 93 citgo gas, 4 runs every run it went a misserable 1.83, 1.81,183,1.82 60 foot the drag radials are obviously shot lol. fastest it went was a 12.41 @ 108.82 , others were 12.47 @ 108.08, 12.48 @ 108.10, 12.48 @ 108.05, like a bracket car but i think the 60 gotta be better, 19 lbs in the radials btw. but i think not too shabby for a mild deal. it was humid as all heck at lebanon valley too, da was over 2000. anyone got any drag radial i can borrow . jeff

Glad to see you finally got it to the track! Those ETs will definitely be dropping once you can get the 60 foots down.

That car is badass!!

Bring it out oct 7 to LVD;I believe the rental is $50.

FWIW,try Mobil fuel, and dump the Citgo. That is the worst pump gas in CT.

Jeff-

Tire should be fine. I would go lower on the pressure. You may need more converter.

Did it spin or just didn't 60 ft?

I had a 3500 converter in it 60ft 1.6x consistently.

Good to hear you got some seat time.

Beautiful Ventura. Sounds like you had fun at the track. Solid times.

It's been awhile since I've had iron heads, just wondering if 25* of timing is right {?}.

Good luck, race hard, have fun.

Jim

thank you guys! 67, no secert, i pretty much told the entire combo, but i was launching at approx 2,000 didnt want to go higher becuase i thought it would just spin more. the rain came, and it came heavy so we left, but we have lebanon rented on oct 12th fri, along with 1320x. hope to play around more with it then. 66 bonne, yes only 25, just got it running, im told 29 degrees is optimal for a mild iron head deal, does that sound right to anyone? next time ill try 29, and 110 octane and launching higher i guess, i was just having fun today

I would think 25* total is low, somewhere in the lower 30's sounds about right. In my Pontiac 350 i run 36* to 38* total but it's only 8.5 comp. At 25* total i don't even think my car would run,it would be around 4* intial.
That is a great looking ventura,Ponjohn did a great job with that car building it.

I can't take the credit, NRC Motorsports built the car. Ran high 9's on the street with with a 604 BBC.

I run 40* of timming in my low comp iron headed motors.
I think you got a lot left in that thing. Give it what it wants.

Me too on the 12.2 signature. Hey, dialing-in Total advance can be fun with Low Compression.

Very cool car and very consistant. Nice job. You can definitely use more timing with your iron heads, especially with that low of a cr. 25* would be perfect if you were running boost or NOS. I would bump it up to 32 and start there. then make a pass and drop it 2 degrees. If it slows down go the other direction 2 degrees to 34. You should be fine up to 36 degrees.

Great job on the first trip out. Now that the car is all finished, you can start working on it! Don't waste your money on the 110 octane fuel. If you just HAD to put some in to give yourself the warm fuzzies then just spike it with a few gallons. Save your cash for some fresh tires.
