Painted my first car
You guys have helped me with auto body questions over the years, and this week I finally saw it through.
I used primer and paint mixed at my local Napa. The color laid down real nice. The clear fought me a little, but nothing a little extra time spent wet sanding wont fix. I thought I took a pic of it in clear, but I guess not. I'll grab one tomorrow.

Excellent ... post some pics of it after the clear is all done.

Nice project. I sure hope you covered the TV and everything else before you sprayed the clear.

Yup! That stuff goes everywhere! It certainly likes to stick to arm hair.

'69? or 70? One of my favorite bodies. Best friend in High School's older brother had a 69 390 4 speed. Like the Keystone's also.

The quarter scoops are 69. 69 and 70 were the best looking bodies IMHO. We are doing a 70 SCJ, very similar body.

It's a 69.
I got it wet sanded and buffed between yesterday and today. Took a few pics.

Wow, looks great. You have to be happy with that. You must have a lot of ability and worked hard to get that result. Motivational for us dreamers!
And that has always been one of the best-looking cars ever for me. Will not be mistaken for a new jelly bean. My first new car was a 76 Celica GT Liftback because it copied that body almost exactly. |

Thanks guys!
It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. I still need to paint the satin black portion of the hood, rear wing, and louvers. I'll probably get that done this week.

On this project I wet sanded up to 2000 grit, and buffed using 3M products with a wool and foam pad.

Please Please Please let my DIY paint turn out that nice.
I think the buffer learning curve has eased up a bit the new buffers that are out these days. 35 years ago when I worked in a body shop they wouldn't let me touch the buffer, you could ruin a new paint just very quickly. It was HUGE, heavy, and turned very fast. |

And congratulations on painting your own car. It looks good. When you get it all finished it will look great. You have shown people that it's possible. It is so stressful! Right? But so rewarding.
