Default considering this engine as a temp

1973 Pontiac 455 long block , 10- to 1 TRW pistons, 0.60 over, chrome molly rings, new crank and bearings for $800. waiting for a call back to pick this guys brain a bit...
can anyone hlep me with some ammo. Any specifics I should ask with the new crank? forged pistons? Build sheet.. Who did the work... ?rods? Heads?

Anyone want to throw something out there?

I'm just looking for a solid engine to get me through till I'm done with mine.

About all I'd say is that if it is a running motor it sounds like a good deal even at 60 over in the bore.

lol, you make a valid point... did you see the other motor I posted? Any opinions which might be a better build?

If you know and trust the guy with the 400 then I would go that way, especially if the 455 is out of the car and you can't hear/see it run. The 400 looks like a fresh rebuild.

Just my 2 cents.

It would be nice to hear it run.

I bought a 455 short block, looked beautiful (clean), very low miles. Maybe 1,000 miles the guy said. He said he got it from a machine shop, but wasn't sure why it was pulled.

Later I found an imprint of the head on a couple of the pistons. The deck was warped on one side and the pistons where chewed on the skirts (detonation?). The short block was Junk.

I rebuilt it the right way and that is the engine I have today. I've learned my lesson. Don't trust anything even if it looks good.
