Default Goals for 2011..

OK, to all of you in the 70-72 group, what are your goals for 2011? I'm thinking automotive/hobby type stuff, but personal stuff is just fine.

Me, I want to drag race again which calls for going to the Nationals in Oregon in July. Secondly, to finally get that 11-second timeslip. Considering all my runs have been at 4000+ ft altitude tracks, being at sea level should be an eye-opener as well as the few extra HP I need to get the elusive 11.xx out of my street car.

That, and losing the last 20 pounds on top of the 50 I've already lost.

Anyone else want to chime in?

Happy New Year to all. 2011 has to be better than 2010 was.

The more weight you drop the faster you'll go!!

Congrats on losing the pounds. That is a tough thing to do.

My only goal is to put this dang LeMans back together and get it on the road again. Its been 10 years since it moved under its own power. I am having a hard time getting motivated though.

I'm looking forward to getting my 71 vert on the strip for a first run(with me at the wheel anyway). Need to get the new intake and carb on and get her running better first. Personaly I just hope that 2011 is better than 2010 in all aspects.

I wanna get the vibration worked out of my 72 Lemans, and take it to the track for my first racing experience.

And also want to begin the restoration on Dad's 70 GTO. Hope to get it to the body shop in February.

I really... really... really want to get my '70 T-37 done this year. And then, once it's done, get it into the 11s in stock appearing trim.

I want to get a 12.5x time slip from my '69 'vert on G70-14s...

I want to get my '66 GTO back on the road again...

My goal is to be driving my 70 Judge for the first time. It has "only" been off the road for close to 30 years now so it is about that time. Mark

Need to get the carrier bearings and pinion bearing in the LeMans rear replaced, think I'll just go through it. Want to get the interior freshened up too, sound deaden, heat barrier, new carpet, that stuff.

Of course this is all after I get the W-30 clone done for my daughter!

Matt, you still have that vibration issue? Thought you were on the right track there to getting it worked out?

Quitter! Bet you'll find once you're done, you'll like it, and start driving it! Heh-heh! Or have someone else work on it!

yep still fightin it... aint really done much with it for a while. aint been in the garage much since the cold weather moved in.

I did buy a magnetic base angle finder (protractor) and took some "rough" measurements on pinion angle numbers... first time for me. in less than ideal conditions, all the angles seemed to be right on, and I calculated the pinion angle to be -1*.

but i was layin on my back, halfway in the dark, cramped up under the car... etc. probably didn't get a good square look at the protractor, and it probably wasn't perfectly squared up to the places it ought to be... so I haven't ruled pinion angle out yet. I may revive that old thread here in the near future...

Yeah, you may want to, revive the thread, but think the drive angles are good. I'm thinking like pinion bearing, carrier bearings, or axle bearings, but I forget where that left off! The other suggestion I made was the pinion yoke may be damaged, and the u-joint isn't sitting in the yoke properly. That's a tough one to diag, and has got me a couple times. Basically have to take the driveshaft out and measure or do a real close inspection of the yoke cups.

And this was vibrating when you put it in nuetral and coast, right?

Yep... out of gear coasting still produces vibration, but it should be mentioned that it's a different feel to the vibration. which in my mind indicates an issue with drivtrain loading vs. unloading the rear end/suspension. but I could be wrong.

I'll dig up that thread.

Cool. Well, that makes it behind the trans yoke.

Yup, once you're ready to hammer on that, revive the thread, sure you'll get the answers you need.
