I asked the machine shop about what valves he was planning to use if the were single or double grooved. He said I thought they were songl groove that means I can't use the stock o-ring seals. He was planning to install stem seals of some kind with the new guides is this ok ?

Stem seals are fine, we generally use a Hastings seal that is a metal jacket with a teflon seal.

We use a Viton Rubber seal. The teflons are good but not what you want on a street car! The teflon WILL go out of round causeing you to eat oil. The ones Dick D. refers to are better than a full teflon. But down the road you will have the same problem.
