Default 69 bezel/grill painting

Hey I was wondering about prep/paint of the headlight bezel (non-hideaways) and the grill. The bezel currently has some pits and the paint is faded. The grills are the funniest..i think a previous owner painted the black area with a paint brush. Otherwise they are in good shape and should clean up nicely.

But I was just wondering about specifics. I assume with the headlight bezel once it is sandblasted down, that I tape off the polished area, paint it semi-gloss(?) black, and then polish the polished areas to a nice shine.

With the grill, I assume I take off the chrome pieces, and scuff the paint and then give it a good shot of paint. But with the grill, the outter frame of it, does it get painted the color of the car, or the black? I haven't looked that close at GTO's at the car shows, and pictures aren't that high detailed. Pictures look like it is painted black, but mine was painted the color of the car, but that doesn't mean much considering some of the stuff they did to it.

The original black paint on the middle section of squares was flaking on mine so I used a tooth brush to try to remove all that I could. It worked pretty well as I remember--that was 1983/4.

Curly Joe's taping brings back memories...........it takes patience to get it just right.

I had a collection of different silver paints in rattle cans that I purchased before I matched the original silver.

the original color is very similar but we wanted a slight update so we chose the dark green from a 1995 Grand Prix.

Those headlight bezels...the silver part, is that a chrome trim (I'm missing) or is it polished or it is painted silver?

also, are the outter edges suppose to be black or the color of the car?

Also, what do you think of the current paint job on mine? Brush strokes and all
