Default Old Pic - 1969

Great black and white photo showing a brand new 69 GTO with hood tach, power antenna, and poverty caps.
Dealership with gas pumps in front is just as cool!

Is this the same dealership just 20+ years earlier?
JohnnyB

PS. I'm trying to find out where it was, could swear I've seen it before. One of the cross streets is Washington St. as seen in the OP's photo, looks to be northern climate (sweaters, reflextion in windows looks like bare trees, in OP's photo).

Ultimate GTO shows two Simpson Pontiac agencies;

07 735 Simpson, Pontiac, Southgate, MI . Googlemaps does not reveal a Washington St in Southgate.

25 399 Simpson Pontiac-Cadillac Inc, 3002 Rucker Ave, Everett, WA 98201 (out of business). Looks like this might be it, per the attached.

I checked those resources, I'm not so sure. They would have had to change the name of the street, the original photo shows "washington st" on the street sign in front of the dealership. Can't see the other cross-road. From google earth street view I don't see any other visual clues ...they are both on a corner though, odds of that make it possible, and road names can be changed.

I would have thought that one of the photos would have shown a Cadillac sign in addition to the Pontiac.

If it's in WA, it's not the one I saw ...as I've never been to WA

Need more evidence to solve this mystery .... and I love solving Pontiac mysteries.

Found it .... Stillwater Ok.

Using this archive of ads from page 3, Dec. 7, 1967 Perkins Journal, Perkins OK.

http://pkj.stparchive.com/Archive/PK...2071967P03.php

Stillwater is a town a few miles to the north of Perkins OK.

There is a intersection of 6th and Washington, although the maps don't show it as Washington St. in Stillwater ...but if you go to Google streetview you can see the road signs. It's now a bank, totally different building, no Humpty Dumpty across the street.

And quite possible I saw this dealership at one time as I grew up in Memphis and we took vacations to OK and Texas often ....in a 1966 Tempest, and in a 1969 Catalina, and in a 1969 firebird .... when I was a child ... you can see where my attachment to Pontiac came from.

I'd still like to try to find out if the older photo of the Ben Simpson Pontiac is the same corner, just 20-30 years earlier.
JohnnyB

PS. Yep Mike, came across that in my searches ...that's a keeper.

60's stuff .... that 6th ave tidbit was the kicker, thanks ....
And this dealership is not on the list of Pontiac dealers on the ultimate GTO site.

PSS. Wow ... who'd a thought it would be that cold in OK all the time

Simpson Pontiac (Southgate, MI) is where my '68 Firebird Ram Air I Conv. was sold.
Which pix above are from that particular dealership?

Sure would like to know who the original owner was...

Broadcast Copy I found under the seat says,

"TAG COX"
