Default F body radio mods

Wondering if anyone has some feedback on why I couldn’t get the year one double din to work with my manual console trans am?
They make point it out pretty quick but my dash has been modded for the single radio already and my console is questionable so if it’s just cutting more I’m ok with that but fabbing something to look nice is a little different.

Have had a better radio for a long while sitting in the garage and I’m ready to break down and put in door speakers so it’s time for the better head unit as well.

If you’re willing to cut the dash then anything should work if you can live with the aesthetics afterwards. I did some very minor trimming on my 69 LeMans aftermarket dash bezel and installed a touchscreen SiriusXM unit which fits like a glove. Added a couple of completely non-functional Gibson guitar bell knobs simply to fill the volume and tuning holes. Sometimes you get lucky and everything works out fine.

The after fact for sure. However it usually leads me into something I hadn’t intended getting into. Really didn’t want to pop for the restore a muscle car one but it will look better when done. I suppose I need to keep looking at it on the shelf until I’m ready to wrap my dash then it will not make much of a difference.

I've got the one from Restore a Muscle Car in my 80 TA. I agree it was a bit of sticker shock buying the piece, but now that it is in I absolutely love it. Worth every penny in my book. Touch Screen radio looks like it belongs there.

They are pretty nice, have seen one in person, look great.

I would imagine you would need to take your time installing it, maybe even heat it a little to shape it, depending on the dash being used.

But I suspect it will turn out as nice or nicer than the one I saw. They work. But it does require modifying you dash in a way you can't go back.

I didn't know they had these but I went a different direction - a floating double-DIN into a single DIN.

That’s taking dash cutting to a new level of destruction.

Jeez, need to find a friend with a 3d printer .. print you up just about any kind of bezel you want.

Here's a couple of pics. Hard to get a real good angle on it. Using a vibrating multi tool, cutting it wasn't hard. I ended up cutting 3 times to ease in to the correct amount. I also did it on the work bench while I had the dash out to put on a new cap which made things pretty easy.

Here's a pic of a floating double din in my son's camaro. It works but isn't quite as seamless but then you aren't as committed. Price wise, the double din in my TA came with a lot more audio features than my son's for the same price.

I apologize for the camaro pics. I tried to fix them to no avail.

At 309 a pop, I am betting these are print to order.
3d printing isn't the big expense, its the scanning , good scanners. That cost..$$$

I like the floater cuz it gives me a 10" touchscreen that I can remove and put into the trunk when I need to park.

They will break your window here for a quarter.
