Fan Shroud
What is the difference between the 3 core and 4 core fan shrouds. And what are the part numbers for the two? Thanks. Tom

As far as i know the shrouds are the same, the rubber radiator insulators are different.

Looking at the Ames catalog. They show two different shrouds. I am looking at buying a Nos one. But it has a different part number on it than the one that is original to the car

hmmmmmmmm
my understanding is ...........
on mine they are dated near the part number ...on bottom radiator side 69 = 9795194 ..... 9795194 -2 .... 9795194-3 no battery tab 3 revisions 1970 9795359 1971 72 457330 Scott there is probably revisions on the other years also I just dont have examples |

9795359 is the one from my car. And the one with part# 457330 is the one I can get my hands on. But it barrels me why Ames shows the two for the 70 model year

I solved this during my chase a few months ago. in 69, they had a 3 and 4 core version due to the way the rubber mounts push the radiator left side smaller tank forward when it's a 3 core. The 3 core shroud compensates on the left side by the battery by having a wider flap that fills the gap created by the smaller 3 core tank. You can turn a 3 core shroud into a 4 core shroud by trimming the flap back to match where the 4 core shroud was made to fit flush.
in 70 and up they started using the 4 core shroud for both 3 and 4 core rads because the rubber insulator on the 3 core changed to push the radiator back flush with the shroud and opened gap in front of it instead of behind it. All the aftermarket rubber insulators are now done in either the later rear orientation style or as 4 core only so the 4 core shroud works for everything. I've got it all spelled out at home but from memory the 5194 is the 3 core and 5359 was the 4 core in 69 both with side flaps, 5359 carried to 70 for both once they changed the insulators and dropped the side flap, then the 330 took over everything in 71 superceding all of the original numbers. |

Just adding. Looking over the '70 build sheets I have, '5194 were used on the 3 core and '5359 was used on the PA, PD and PM radiators (4 core). The battery flap was dropped off early in the '70 model year at some plants, but the numbers were still the same.

My 71 GT37 has the 5359 fan shroud on the build sheet, and in the car. it is dated on the bottom with a 70, and does not have the cut out in the top corner.
