Default Another one bites the dust....

So I Was taking the car for one last ride before putting into storage for the winter and a 19 year old kid in a Ford Focus decided to run a red light and rearrange the old pontiacs face....... Still waiting on insurance but I guess how much they give me will determine what happens to the old girl.

That's awful, must be very upsetting.

Hope you weren't injured.

So sorry to hear about this, but i'm glad you're OK.

And this is one of the reasons I drove my GTO only twice this year. Ppeople are doing everything but DRIVING when they are on the road now.

Luckily Nobody was hurt, she was protected by her plastic cocoon and airbag and I had 2 tonnes of detroit steel on my side The doors still open and close nicely and the windshield is still intact so hopefully there isn't any frame damage, but trying to find the front end sheet metal and endura bumper for a 71 is not gonna be easy because if i'm not mistaken none of it is being repopped.

That stuff is findable. There's an Endura bumper on Craigslist Wisconsin, Milwaukee right now for $200.00. The most important thing is that nobody was hurt..

I'm changing my mind about self driving vehicles...they HAVE to be better than about 85% of the drivers out there now.
Sorry for your troubles but on the plus side, it really does look pretty fixable.

Glad everyone is ok. Parts are available, just takes some surfing on the internet. I have found parts for the 71-72 GTO all over the country. Preston (thepontiacman) on here had a nose advertised awhile back. Contact him, he may have or know where you can get the parts you'll need.

Just remember that its not only up to them what they give you. Build up a case for your price and present it to them as a counter offer. You can use ebaylistings, hemmings, etc as evidence of replacement cost. Also, don't forget to include any taxes and registration fees you would need to pay on a new vehicle. It looks like your car is worth $25k-$30k without knowing anything about it. Tax and reg on $30k is about $3k. They need to give you that to.

Also, if you have receipts for parts, restoration, etc that adds up to a sizeable amount you can also use that to buttress your case.

If their price is too far below your price, tell them you will get a lawyer to negotiate with them. They might become more flexible.

I have an NOS hood if you need it - could crate it up and get it out to you on common carrier.

Just a quick update to this story, I topped up a little bit to the insurance payout for the green car and picked up this one yesterday, I'm not sure how i feel about the white vinyl top but on the plus side I cant say as I've seen many others in this combination. It also came with a bunch of spares including a hood that will go toward fixing my old one so all in all a good score I think.
