Why is it when something doesn't work PERFECTLY we have to **** all over it?

This is free - and it benefits each & every one of us and only gives Chris headaches.

A little patience goes a LONG way!

Very true Boss My concern is, the PM's situation. Example top right under our screen names it says private messages. Mine shows I have none but today when I clicked on it to delete some messages, I saw I had 15 recent messages, and some were rather important. Had I not clicked on "private messages" I wouldn't have known members were trying to contact me. That's frustrating, but I do understand your point and it's a good one!

All Forums have issues from time to time, and I think by expressing the problems we as individuals might be experiencing could be helpful to those trying to correct the problems.

I get your point MA & see how that could be an issue - what I've gathered from the updates is that it's going to be another week or two before anything gets done. Maybe at that point they'll ask for input on what's been experienced as issues.

Today it actually seems pretty good.

I myself, because I'm a frequent user, like to use the CP User and New Posts when visiting. I'm signed up as a daily subscriber, so if a thread is updated that I've posted in, when I visit (in CP User) again I can view it. It will also show any PM's I've received. Or, view the updated posts at night from my E-mail (no PMs currently being sent to my E-mail address). New Posts show all threads that have been updated since my last visit.

We're really fortunate that they didn't just shut the forums down after the merger. I know I would have after reading as many negative comments as I have since then.
No reflection on Bob V. or anyone else in this thread but I've read a LOT of negative comments just overall in the forums about the forums.

I'm sure the PY Forums will be back on track before too much longer.

Finding a Pontiac forum that's even close to measuring up to this one or that could easily take its place?

I wish you luck with that.

Even with the minor issues you're still getting the best Pontiac information and classic Pontiac cars and parts selling format ever.

For free.

Free is good.

We can be patient b-man. It might help though if a mod would post in each section with a title about PMs...letting people know the PMs are working but that you have to check them. Maybe bump those posts for a week or two to let people know. I've been thinking its broken for a while now and didn't even check.

I surf here exactly the same way - my browser link takes me immediately to User CP, I check threads I'm subscribed to, read my PM's & if I have time check the 4-6 pages of New Posts since my last visit. It's the most efficient way to view the forum.

There is a simple work around we users can do to make them work again. Simply change performanceyears.com in the link to maxperformanceinc.com and they will be back in business.

Here's an example:

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=708574 - Link will not work.

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=708574 - Link WILL work.

Now... On the much larger scale, in order to make this a permanent fix, the lucky IT guy, whoever he is, can do a "find and replace" search of the text for the forum code and simply tell it to replace anything with performanceyears.com in it with maxperformanceinc.com and it should repair all the broken links in one fell swoop.

Most forum software available online is free and not too terribly tough to figure out. It takes time, but the issues should be solvable with some diligence. we users need to remember though... there are YEARS and YEARS of posts on this site, so the move over to the new maxperformanceinc.com domain will take a keen eye and some time to root out all the small problems that seem large from our side. I have no doubt the bugs will be worked out in the long run and patience on our end I'm sure, will be greatly appreciated.

This post won't do much to solve the PM issues, but if any of you are having trouble with links to other threads within the forums, changing to maxperformanceinc.com should get you to those threads you're trying to find.

A big thanks to the folks that run this site. Even with these recent move related troubles, it's still the best dang Pontiac site on the internet!
I put an entry in my \windows\system32\drivers\etc\host file to correct this, and a number of other issues:

216.178.81.108 forums.performanceyears.com

Will just have to remember it's there, and remove once the issues are corrected.

The references to the links one the site are pointing to it by name, they're embedded, so it's not particularly an easy fix for a run of the mill guy.

(an alias on the local server would correct it too until they do get IT support)

Yes Paul I saw them yesterday and replied. Not sure you got them. Also replied in your TA for sale thread.

Yeah, but by saying that because the forum is so big, and that its free to use so its ok for us to deal with these sort of things is a little frustrating to some.

I don't mind, but it seems like its a situation where you just need to deal with it, and stop bringing it up.

I kinda miss an accurate thread view counter also, it would be nice to fix that also. Especially for someone trying to sell something, it would be nice to see how many views an add had.

Here's an idea..Why don't we all request that the forums be shut down completely until the system works absolutely perfectly? I mean, we're all perfectionists here, right?

The PY Online Forums is the largest online gathering of Pontiac enthusiasts anywhere in the world.
