Default Throttle cable

I'm installing a 76 Q-jet on my 73 bird. The newer carb has the stud with clip attachment for the throttle cable. The car has the ball and socket type. Can i simply install a throttle cable from a newer F body, or cut the stud off and use the ball style off the old carb. Looks like the latter will have a clearance issue with the secondary link rod. Thanks.

Probably simplest to install a 75-78 4bbl. T/A throttle cable...

If your 73 is originally a 4bbl & the cable is not broken, don't brake it...I could use one...

Just check out the hole in the firewall. When I tried the conversion of a 78 cable to my 70, the square was different. I went with Mr. Gasket cable. The braided steel slips off to reflect stock look if it is a concern.

I just dressed the sides of the plastic insert with a file & it fit real nice.....

Just received a new throttle cable by Pioneer Inc. Made in USA. Looks like it's going to be a seamless conversion.
Thanks for helping out the New Guy. B&P

Just wanted to add that The Parts Place, Inc. is now marketing the ball-type cable. Listed as 1971-4. I can't comment on the quality yet.

PY sells one marketed for those years too. I had them measure it and it was not a fit for the 72/73 4bbl Birds. Just a heads up to anyone looking.

The pioneer cable housing was 3/4 inch longer than stock but i can live with it. I did trim the housing square where it enters the bulk head. It does open the Q-Jet to 100%

Another disappointing reality from the reproduction market. Thanks for the heads-up.
