OK, my turn. Here's a band that was popular in the UK but hardly known in the states. Their two best albums by far, IMO, are " Bursting at the Seams" and "Hero and Heroine". Both are well worth seeking out.
Oh, and before anyone goes on a rant about that last song, please, look up the word "satire" in the dictionary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIMSo2eLLP0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysFff...=results_video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdOCWUgwiWs

I know them a little bit. I kinda saw them as proggy/folky early on but not sure.
Another Brit group that was a bit too British for American tastes was Family: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG1KDqFiJh8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ih-vQ-gAY08 Trivia: Ever wonder where the bassist in Blind Faith came from? Now you have your answer, although in the live track above, the bassist was John Wetton, later of many other famous groups. From the same concert, Jimmy Page's original choice for singer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxwRYx3Mk7E |

What's the deal with that? You find Reprise records are consistently of a certain quality?
If you like albums, from beginning to end, "Music in a Doll's House" is great. |

Back to topic: This 1969 Pink Floyd live is excellent audio/ perfrormances for an UmmaGumma/MORE inspired concert (I never heard before) Been listening to it this hour. Simply CANNOT be in a hurry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUbCPEtt3ms Last edited by Half-Inch Stud; 03-24-2013 at 09:07 PM. |

If you search on Youtube, you can find the whole album to see if it's worth it to you. Their second, "Family Entertainment," is pretty good too. Their third, "A Song for Me," is where the second song is from and is harder and less artsy, but I think it measures up nicely to, let's say, Procol Harum's "Home." Singer has a love it/hate it voice but there's no doubt he's a great singer.
Another group that was quite prolific but didn't make many inroads in the US was Audience: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT-scL0J3rw Unfortunately I couldn't find the studio version as I think it's better. Then there are some American bands who are more popular in the UK than in the US, like Love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQWhLmZVWpE |

Don't know about the psychedelia part, East-West is a blues album, The songs; East-West on the East West album, His Holy Modal Majesty on the Super Session album and the song Gold and Silver on the Quicksilver Messenger Service album were iconic late 60's Jazz Rock surf music. The jamming and the Indian ragas (the "East") has a lot to do with it.

Na, that music is pre Indian stuff, heck it was released in the beginning of 1966. It's got plenty to do with Chicago style vs. west coast jazz/blues.

What do you mean "pre-Indian?" East-West is a reference to India. To wit:

Great vinyl scores lately:
Dreaming My Dreams: Waylon Jennings (my favorite of his) Atlanta's Burning Down: Dickey Betts and Great Southern Self Titled: Dickey Betts and Great Southern Tarkus: Emerson Lake and Palmer Trilogy: Emerson Lake and Palmer Couple of Simon and Garfunkle Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid: Bob Dylan (Love Knockin on Heavens Door and also Billy) Someone in town has a huge stash of vinyl and is stocking bins at a few antique stores, I am leaving my phone number to try to connect with the mystery seller, hoping they will call me, I want to see the thousands they have reportly stashed, "the mother lode" and their stuff I have bought so far is collector condition, so I hope they call. I am starting to have storage issues (like running out of room) for the vinyl addiction. I need a music room is where this is going, with massive shelves.

Clare de Lune by Isao Tomita MOOG Music
Clare de Lune MOOG originally enjoyed Tomita's version on vinyl and CD but while searching for that I stumbled upon this jewel of Randy George's version. Enjoy!

Tomita's version is best. I took a few excerpts From The Snowflakes are Dancing LP to put to a video I did of the Blue Angles and Thunderbirds. Tomita's Engulfed Cathedral works really well with F-16's and aerobatic's!
Also Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor and Moussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain was just was was needed for the Blue Angles and their F-18's! |
