The later 2nd gen Birds have a lower CG, which improved handling and the actual rear frame rail reflects this. I have replaced them in 2, 78 T/A. One I flanged and replaced most of the hump and back, the other car, did it all . Both time on its side, one was from a tractor, next was a rotary made for it. Get extra spot weld removed bits...

I m sure you have been told this but it is by no way a easy job. I would strongly suggest having it done . You real need to know what you are doing and having a jig to keep straight sure would help. But I have read of some doing them even bolted to body but just can't see that being a positive outcome. Still waiting to see some pictures maybe not that bad. Doug

Most I have seen done use the rails from a donor car.

Lost on what you need? Front or rear? If front just buy from junk yard and bolt them on. If rear again junk yard or buy new many venders don't think there is any difference on those years but Ames has a great tech department just call . That should take care of you . Doug

I don't think there was any changes on these rails over the years. Im not and expert. Would think if any they would be minor. I m sure our friends at Ames could take care of you.

The car body was lowered on the frame in later years as the gas tank was put up into the trunk. The 70-73 dont have the later sway bar holes or reinforcements in the top of the arch. If Ames says the rest is the same, adding in that reinforcement and holes wouldnt be that big a deal. I dont have any out side by side to compare . Good luck !
