I have purchased a set of new leaf springs and shackle kits for my '68 Firebird. The bushings are much smaller in diameter than the rear eye inside diameter of the leaf spring. The shoulder of the bushing is the same diameter as the outside diameter of the eye. I have been told that the springs are correct (and appear to be as compared to my originals still installed) and that the bushing part number is correct. I would just like to know from some of you that have changed out your springs and bushings to tell me if the looser than drop fit is correct for spring shackle bushings?!
Thank You for any info, DanC

Dan, something is definitely NOT right there. The bushings should fit VERY tightly into the spring eyes, no slop or play possible. I'd suggest dropping your original springs out, removing the bushings and then comparing. If the springs are the same but the bushings are wrong, then someone goofed on the bushings they sent you. Good luck!

If the shackle bushings are urethene, send em back. Squeak, groan, etc......Rubber stockers will serve you just fine. After all, the rears are just along for the ride......
Replace the fronts with urethene or with solid aluminum. |
