What gives?
So I finally use up my last stock of Milodon 7/16” rocker arm studs and I get these from ARP which are listed right on the package as being for 64 and up Pontiacs.
The lower section is too long, in fact can anyone tell me what aftermarket heads other then CV1s and that type of port arrangement can take a stud with a bottom section this long? These gotta be packaged wrong, or is ARP expecting folks to cut them to lenght, please don’t tell me yes.

Looks like it might be packaged wrong. Jeg's spec sheet shows base thread length should be 1.025"

They look correct. That's how they're made. Back in the day ARP would tell you it's these or nothing. It'll be interesting to hear their current response.
Good Luck! |

Yep. Contact ARP. See what happens.
(When I contacted them (multiple times, years ago) about getting some control-arm cross-shaft bolts made, I never got a reply or acknowledgement.) |

ARP website list same as Jeg's 1.025". How long are the ones in the package?

I think I usually use some ARP SBC 7/16-even on my aftermarket heads

Looks like Chevy is 7/16" on both ends.

Oh, and another thing about these being labeled for 64 and up Pontiacs, these have a 1/2” bottom so you can’t even use them for a stock screw in replacement even if they where of a correct length.
So these other then being overly long are for converting pressed in studs to screw in. You can’t then use them with factory guide plates without drilling them up to 1/2” . It looks like there length might work with thick aftermarket type guide plates , but has anyone seen such drilled to clear a 1/2” stud bottom?

"Big Block Chevy" up to the point where they eliminated rocker-arm adjustment, is 7/16 both ends. Casting side coarse thread, rocker side fine thread.
"Small Block Chevy" is usually 3/8 fine thread rocker side, 7/16 coarse thread casting side. But plenty of folks upgrade the SBC to the heftier "BBC-style" 7/16 on both ends. |

Just had to grind 16 of them a couple weeks back for a set of heads here.

Steve: The studs are for 64 up press in stud heads--sorta. The bottom must be shortened to 5/8" to work though. I submitted the H-O bluprint to arp years ago , but they they ignored it.. We manufactured the correct length and thread pitch ourselves.

Personally, it wouldn't bother me having the extra length threads. That way I could shorten them to maximize thread engagement. It would be annoying for a shop that does it all the time.

On a side note the studs are also very long on the rocker arm side. They can cause issues when using stock rocker covers.... It's almost like it was ARP's first attempt at making a rocker arm stud. They should've listened to H-O Racing! |

Sounds like 460 Ford or BBC Studs. Grind, blow and go.
