Default 65 horns

will someone explain to me how the horns work. the part i dont understand is the horn button switch. i have a standard steering wheel. so when you mash the horn ring does it ground the horn circuit? how does the button on the turn signal switch come into play. excatly how does it work?

you should be able to pull up a break-down of the assembly from a service manual...or maybe someone here could post one. Pretty simple set-up.

The button on the steering wheel provides a ground (not +12 volts) to energize the horn relay coil. The horn relay always has +12 volts on one side of the coil, so when the horn button grounds the other side, the coil energizes and sends +12 volts to the horns.

The horns are grounded to the core support, so +12 volts from the relay completes the circuit and the horn blows.

You can check the circuit out by grounding the wire coming into the horn button area with the horns and battery connected. If the horns blow when grounding this wire, all you need to do is assemble the horn button switch properly and you're set!
