As an IT engineer who maintains a bunch of web servers (among other things) and having experience with browser issues, I would suggest trying a fresh profile for your browser before blaming the server.

As not all users are experiencing the problem you report (at least not consistently), the first place to look is on the client side (your web browser, a local firewall, and/or any type of malware scanner/virus scanner/web proxy).

Just some random thoughts in the absence of any data (logging info).

There is also what seems like a server side issue too.
I can tell when its gone wonky again - I don't get any email notifications about new posts being made.
Then sure enough after a day or three of no new notifications, come on board, and I'm not signed in anymore.

It comes and goes sparodically for me.
