Northwind intake manifold height vs Torker 2
Does anyone have a definitive height on the NorthWind intake and the Edelbrock Torker 2 intake?
From Tin Indian they show this: KRE North Wind 9.622" 9.622" Edelbrock Torker II 8.176" 8.397" Is the North Wind really 1.5" taller?? Trying to retain a ram air pan set up and have the Torker 2 now.... going 1.5" taller would likely not allow me to retain the setup is why I ask. |

See if this post is helpful to your question (FWIW)

A related tid bit ? Just after the NW intake was first introduced Pontiac Enthusiast magazine did an article titled "North Winds Of Change". In it they compared the intake to the Edelbrock Victor with a statement by Jeff Kauffman that it offers
1 1/4-inch more hood clearance. But the method of measuring the manifold heights within the article, and height comparison photo presented, were VERY misleading. Lots of discussion about that on line at the time. Also noted, both Dave Bisschop and Butler state 1 1/4" Shorter Than Victor Intake. Now compare the height of the Victor and Torker II. Similar situation here, how does the "TIN INDIAN" determine the dimensions ? The Edelbrock catalog states the Torker II is 6.03' at the front of the carb flange and 7.15" at the rear, measured to the engine block. Edelbrock states the Victor is 7.70" / 7.70" .

The TII is angled while the NW has a level carb flange from front to back. A ram air setup using the stock scoops could be fabbed up but if you’re making enough power to need a NW those small scoops will probably limit the engine.

Thanks all. I dug up this old post that is pretty thorough with photos. The search feature (and going through 10+ pages of posts) is your friend. Doh.
http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...=620235&page=2 Kauffman says expect a half inch difference (Northwind slightly taller and not angled) and the findings in this post kind of support that. |

Someone send me a Northwind and I'll put it on the same motor and measure it! Preferably a 4500 and I'll buy it from you!

Got one on the way so in a week or so can give specs for you, and add it to the list.

I've got a NW on a new motor on the engine stand. Tell me where/how you want measurements I'll post them here.

If interested this is how Edelbrock does it....
https://www.edelbrock.com/pub/media/...fold-chart.jpg To ensure adequate hood clearance of your Edelbrock Intake Manifold, check the height of your stock manifold and compare the "A" and "B" measurements against those of the Edelbrock manifold prior to purchase. The heights of all Edelbrock manifolds can bee seen on the Manifold Reference Dimensions page. Please Note: To figure carburetor pad height, add dimensions "A" + "B" and divide by 2. For example: Performer manifold #2101: (A) 3.5" + (B) 4.6" ÷ 2 = 4.05" See page 81 here: https://edelbrock-files-v1.s3.amazon...ck-Catalog.pdf *Dimensions are in inches. Refer to “Reference Drawings”. (A) Measured from lifter valley end seal surface. (B) Note that exit dimensions may vary slightly .

My measurements were done with a straight edge(level) on carb pad and at center measure to valley pan front and rear.

Unfortunately the front is of most concern as that is where the carb screen just rubs the top ram air pan now when closing the hood with a Torker 2. The pans themselves though should still fit with a Northwind. Need that carb screen on to protect things from falling in the engine. Ask me why I care.

Yes no angle so will be taller in front. That is also an issue with the Victor. My 79 Camaro has a small cowl hood scoop and front is still close even without a spacer on it.
