E-85 total/locked out timing on KRE D-ports?
Is anybody else here running E-85 on a KRE D-port engine? If so, what is your total timing? I went racing this past Friday and set the timing at 33 degrees (locked) and the car started sputtering. I backed it off to 31 degrees but didn't get another run in due to a no headlight issue (oops).
Attached is the time slip, I'm P488 right lane. I really thought it I was finally going to get it in the 11's on motor until the sputtering issues around 4700 rpms. Another E-85 question, should I run a hotter or colder plug for the fuel? I'm currently running NGK R5671A-7 plugs just like I was with race gas and nitrous. Thank you, John

Good plug for E85 even with big compression - 13 to 1

Been using e85 now since 2010 and ive tried from 7's all the way to 11's and now im back to an 8. The cooler ones seem to wear out fast for me . Tried 7's and they just never seemed right at the strap. So 8 it is now.
Id call Jeff about the timing question..

Sputtering sounds like fuel or ignition delivery. Not timing.

we run 7s in our e85 combos, i think my buddy Jake with his kre dports is in the 31 degree range. I think he needs more timing but he is super cautious. about 13:1 406 w small hydraulic roller
how does your fuel test? a really good batch (E90) may cause issues if youre set up for a mediocre batch. (E70)

E85 should like a few degree more timing than gasoline, not less. You have accounted for needing approximately 30% more fuel delivery hopefully?

I really thought I did but after reading JSchmitz and your post, I'm now not so sure. I'm running 1/2" line from the sumped cell to the carb. I'm using a Aeromotive SS pump mounted below the fuel call, a PRO-Systems E85 compliant return regulator and a fuel log. I did order a new 100 micron stainless steel filter for the pre-filter. I currently have a 35 micron filter before the pump and an identical one before the regulator (pictured). I just cleaned them both Friday afternoon.

Ditto the flow test. I had an issue with a brand new pump not putting out the volume it should have. Pressure looked good, but the volume wasn't there. Flow test found it. The way you describe it laying down, fuel delivery does come to mind.
