Makes these flares. Seems I’m bending my own fuel lines often, and some cars ( this is an old Mercury ) run inline fuel filters. I like to have a little flare in it for safety.

I’ve used a double flaring tool and stopped part way through the first flare to end up with something close to that.

There used to be a tool for raising the surface of the tube because I used them when I was in school many years ago. I don't know if they are still made or not. It slipped inside the tube and expanded it from the inside.

Looks like a nice tool but not inexpensive.

Maybe there are more budget-friendly knock-offs? Or maybe you could find a local shop, like a hose fabricator, with a commercial version that could do it for you?

I'd be trying b-man's approach on my budget.

I'm to cheap to go looking for an expensive tool. I often just solder on a ferrule from compression fitting. It's a little too big, so you then have to grind off some of it. I know it doesn't look OE but it is always hidden under the rubber tubing and probably behind a spring type hose camp.

How about an AN to Barbed fitting? Then just flare the steel line?

Yes that’s pretty close to what you want.

Yes. I’ve put regular single flares in lines in the past, and it can be a pain to get the lines on. It doesn’t have to be perfectly like the bubble I pictured, but something to hold the rubber line in place.
This is what was coming out of my fuel pump, and then 2 1/2’ of rubber line to the filter, a liability!

Rather have a tool, than rely on having fittings and such around that I always seem to be out of.

I have made hundreds of feet of fuel and brake line with the Mastercool hydraulic flaring tool. It's a little pricy but does it all. Double flare, ISO flare, quick disconnects, barbs, it does it all. 3/16-3/8".

I use the mastercool tool and just use a partial squeeze with the first flare step of a double flare process, as mentioned above

I bought one of those kits, several years ago. It's the ONLY tool to use!!!

Throw your old flaring tools in the trash!!!
