Advance curve kit
I have a 1966 dizzy that has been converted over. The weights are really loose
and flopping. The springs are really weak in it. The springs doesn't pull the weights all the way in. I got 41 degrees total timing by 2100 rpm with initial at 11 degrees. My question is, do I get the curve kit for the points style or the hei style dizzy? |

If you mean that you have a points type dist. that has had the points and condenser removed and replaced with another type of pickup then you need a spring/weight kit for the points dist.

Yes you still need to get the recurve for a GM points type Dizzy!
While you are working on it make sure that the limit bushing is intact under the weight plate and make sure that the the whole inner advance shaft moves easy, as if it does not even very stiff springs will not pull the timing back when engine rpm drops. This issue is from old dryed up grease that lubes that inner shaft from the outer, and all to often after 50 years that's the case and you will than need to remove the drive gear to yank out that shaft and then clean and pack in new wheel bearing lube!

I'd locate and put stock weights and springs back on it, and replace the rubber bushing on the advance pin, and/or modify the slot for the desired amount of advance.
I absolutely HATE those aftermarket advance kits, especially the ones sold for the HEI's, complete JUNK in every respect......Cliff

The weights for the point distributors really are terrible. And not heat treated at all.

I went to a friend and he gave me 2 dizzys. They was in really good shape. I took the weights and springs off the best one an put it on my dizzy. Weights fit really well. Springs was heavier. everything seem to operate smoothly. Installed it back in my car. I noticed right
off the bat that the engine ran smoother. I set the initial at 12 degrees. But only 30 at total for right now. All in at 3100 rpm. Maybe I should set my total first and see where my initial falls at. A whole lot better as it is right now. |

I was pretty tickled with. Just hit the key and it fired right up. The easiest its ever started. Can hardly wait to take it out and see how she acts on the road. Was a nasty rainy day today.
