Default 70-72 Repop Outer Wheel House Fit

Looks like I need to purchase some outer wheel housings for the 70/71 project, and would like to hear comments/feedback on the quality of current reproduction ones.

Can anyone please provide fitment/comments on outer wheel housing for 70-72, and which are currently available?

That sounds promising. And the only people who make them is Sherman's?

The Ames catalog lists a note for the outers that reads:

"..are poor fitting panels. Re-contouring will be required for proper fit. These are the only repos available."

Which are what, Sherman's? Only others I see are Sherman's, AMD, Dynacorn, etc don't have listings for 70-72 outers that I found.

Is it possible there's a newer design, and the comment is out dated?

What area of the panel needs contouring work?

I only need like 2" or so where it meets the quarter. I need to order these immediately, since the car goes to the shop next Thursday.

i used a hammer and dolly and worked it over on the wheel opening area.,but it wasnt really that bad...

if all you need a i piece hang on ..i have a pair i got from a memebr that has the front couple inches trimmed for a convert he did..let me see if i can find them..i cant remember if 69 or 70-72...i will know tonight.

as i said..i shoved them in there..and let them float..once the 1/4 fit the way i wanted..i tacked them in.pulled the 1.4 off and did what it took to finish..i dont remeber anything jumping out at me as a prob..but..ive been beating on cars for a living since the 80s...where they perfect? no..did it work yes..and i am pickey..good enough i used them..dont know about whi made them etc..ive done more than a few..

i think people run into a prob when they weld them in thinking they fit like GM..and then they struggle with making the 1/4s fit..they dont..but i think very usable

That's good enough for me, sounds like work that even an OE part would need, nothing is perfect.

Thank you very much for your input, appreciate it, going to pull the trigger on these then.

Now if I could only find a good core support...(70 GTO)

Dang, too late, I had already ordered by the time I saw this, like I said, I was in a time sensitive situation. Thank you though!

The outer section? Where it meets the quarter? How did that fit for you?

That's all I need, I think not even 2" worth. The OEs are still in real good condition, it was so close, the guy initially let it go and just did the quarters, but there's too much of a gap for my tastes.

Yes, outer wheel house. Apparently the stampings quality is hit or miss. Mine were miss, just see how yours comes- nobody else makes them.
