Default 120 degrees outside, thought I would take a data point on cooling

Well, it is hotter than dragon snot out here in AZ -it's been 120 for the last couple of days.

I thought I would see how the bird did.

67 FB, 350, Hayden 2797 clutch, GM 19" 7 blade fan, factory style shroud, 185 tstat, Champion 4 core radiator, stock short nose 69 pump, basic impeller clearance work.

Oh... and a/c running. Cruising the inner streets at 45-50 mph and 2400 rpm (3.73's). I wouldn't sit at idle at a drive-thru in these temps with a/c on, but I don't do that with my LS powered Sierra truck.

Sorry for fuzzy pic and fail to rotate pic. Photography and driving aren't a good mix.

Indeed! I am currently on leave from the Union Army, and I required a stop at the local apothecary to obtain some laudanum.

I shall now make haste in my return to General Sherman's command.

I have many things I want to do outside, but can't bring myself to do anything but jump in the pool.

This is what people way up North feel like in the middle of winter. Except for the part about the pool. And never having to shovel a ton of sunshine from the driveway. But other than that, almost exactly like Northern winters.

I think it's safe to say you have solved any of your hot running issues from the past

I had to go back to basics. Between my Summit 2 core aluminum radiator and my Taurus electric fan, 1 of those 2 items was choking my cooling capacity. Factory clutch fan/shroud and Champion 4 core were what fixed it, either 1 of the 2, or maybe both.

I don't like these average "spring" days, Tom! I gots me some work to do on cars and a garage that needs purging.

I end up playing with other hobbies in the dead of the summer here.

i remember those days when we lived in Yuma
YIKES....

but as soon as that sun goes down (provided you are not on pavement) its amazing how it cools off quickly

i remember when we first arrived and i carried two fuel jugs to fuel the jetskis up
thought i was gonna die from that heat, not to mention how hot the fuel felt when it splashed on me

it's a dry heat lol..... until the monsoons com-ma-knocking

OP:
good job on keeping your ride cool, impressive for that heat level

I'm running the two core universal fit aluminum Summit rad in my '70 with a 462, Hayden severe duty clutch, factory A/C fan and shroud. Flowkooler pump and 160 tstat. I just finished Hot Rod Power Tour through Texas, and only after 30-45 min of idling in traffic into the venues did it start approaching 210. A quick pop to neutral and a run up to 2k for about 30 sec would bring it right back down.

I'm guessing it might have been your Taurus fan, because my radiator has been really good to me.

Too hot to do much of anything outdoors, even in the shade. I was going to change the oil in my Tacoma today but decided to take it to the dealer…well spent $24…not only did my car get serviced but I got to sit in a cool waiting room and catch-up on some work with no interruptions (except for the occasional customer tirade).

I know for sure that the electric was a part of the equation. How much? I'll never know. I was fed up with doing single variable experiments, and thought I would do a little shotgun approach since I was growing short on patience.

same here! Exactly! Only difference is I have not yet changed the radiator as I'll going to keep mine.

I am pretty sure I ordered it from here:
http://www.championradiators.com/

But I think Summit, Jegs, Amazon, etc. all carry them. It was sub $300 IIRC. They list the one I got at $270. I can't remember shipping cost, but I am pretty sure I was out the door for under 3 bills.

How did you decide which radiator to buy? Why not the 1" tube model?

Hmmm... good question. I had a 2 row, and something wasn't getting the job done. I thought 4 would be better than 2. More surface area = more cooling. Nothing more than that. Didn't know about a 1" tube model. Got a link, just out of curiosity?
