Default Have you ever had to sell a car to justify getting another one?

A friend at work is considering selling his 78 400/4 spd t-top T/A. It has been off the road and in a garage since the early 90's when the engine got pulled for a rebuild. The rebuilder flaked, and he got the engine back in pieces.

Fast forward to now, he is now looking to let it go. We have talked for months about me coming to see it on a weekend, and he just hit me up with his price.

Wow. I am currently full-up on cars with regard to space and time: 67 Firebird and 72 Lemans.

What sux is that I am truly a 2nd gen junkie. It broke my heart a decade ago to sell my 73 Formula. I have toyed with the idea of pulling the motor out of the Lemans and selling it as a roller. Ugh!

Any of you peeps have that conflict? To think of giving one up to make space in the herd is almost like choosing between children!

I had to sell my 77 camaro and 75 ranchero to get the money to buy my 68 gto and later on I sold my 73 deville as well. I regret selling the camaro and the ranchero. I also regret getting a 79 camaro thats a POS and am planning on selling my gto and the camaro so i can get a tTop 4 speed firebird or ta and a 4x4 truck as new toys.. and will then probably regret selling the gto

If the next one is better, let the old one go.

I regret selling my 65 GTO clone but had to so I could buy a true 67 GTO convertible. I also regret selling a 27 Chevrolet but I already have two more projects and they are both Pontiacs.

The best deals are when the timing / money / space is the worst. I've proven it over and over.

Go for it, figure out later what to cut loose.

If you have the $ you can find the space, unless of course divorce is an issue and then it’s just cheaper to let it go...

The kids still give me grief but I got a lot more car for the money.

Negative - Mac's car went to a guy back east.

It's a little hard to tell in the photos but his was Nocturne Blue and mine is black.

I've done it many times. In fact, I almost always have to get rid of something to get something else. Many times, I regret it but I don't have storage for more than I have right now. In fact, every car I've had, I can tell you what I got rid of to keep it.

I've had to choose between cars. It's tough, as we wish we could keep them all.

I'm in a similar situation right now. I'm picking up a Humvee, and I really want an R32 Skyline, but I cant buy both of those and keep my other cars/trucks at the same time. lol

Wife: "You need to get rid of some things."
Me: "Shall I get rid of them in order of arrival?"
Wife: "Sure!"
Me: "This one, then this one, this one, YOU, this one, and then this one."
Wife: "Nevermind. Dinner's at 6."

Sold my 1961 455 Pontiac powered custom Chevy stepside pu to get the Chevy crewcab PU my wife wanted. She then said it was too big and ugly to be seen in. Also sold my loaded 421 1963 Bonneville to get her the Firebird convertible she always wanted. After she got it said it was way too nice to drive, and didn't.

I wrestle with this. I've had my '68 for so long and the most interesting thing about it is my history with it. People love the story behind it, and I have such a connection with it, but honestly I get bored with it. I'd love to step up to something else and the only way I can do at the moment is to let it go. I suspect if I stumble on the right next car I'll know. I considered selling it to get my '04 GTO - glad I didn't do that!

I've done it many times over the years, not because I can't afford additional cars but I've learned if I have too many, they don't get all the attention they need/deserve. Will probably sell my C6 corvette this year if I can find the right 62 Catalina 4 speed car.

i just buy what i want, and then decide if i need to let something go...if i feel its a deal or a car ive always wanted, i get it, then deal with selling..keeping or what ever..

ive sold some good stuff in the past to get what i thought was better, and it never is...so..buy now..worry about it later...

if its about money, to sell a car to raise the money? i dunno....i dont, but i know people that are always rolling over stuff and cars for the next..they seem to be good for a bit, but they regret it, or realize..it aint always greener...

Sold my 65 Tempest to get a Porsche that the wife wanted. Kept it about 6 years, it was a rather large money pit, that she really didn't like driving. Traded it for a 2012 Mustang, that we both enjoy.
I say if the money is right, buy the second generation FB, you'll figure out a way to finagle paring and storage.
