Default 1972 Lemans rear end I.D.

I have observed the GM rear identification web page, but i am still confused. My 1972 rear axle cover has a cut out at 3:00 and 9:00, so i am sure its an 8.2 BOP, but does it have a 27 or 28 spline? I have a 3:07 gear from a `68 GTO that i want to use, either with the open carrier or with a posi that i may buy. The original and current gear is a 2:73. Can the 3:08 gear be used with my current carrier? Also if i purchase a posi what spline size, 27 or 28?
