Default 3 inch tailpipes for 2nd gen Firebird/TransAm

I ordered a set of 3" tailpipes from Mbs Performance in Maryland. I ordered them on a Thursday and they shipped them out the next day. I got them the following Tuesday. Very fast service for the times we live in. Even more important was the fit which was dead on. All I had to do was shorten the ends to fit my muffler placement and where I wanted the tips just under the bumper edge. The mandrel bends were perfect. Thought I would pass this info along because I had heard stories that fitting 3" tailpipes in a 2nd gen was a pita. These went on my 79 but I assume the fit would be the same for the other years.

I bent mine 26 yrs ago and it is a PITA. the rear rubber brake line will prolly need to be relocated (down, out and rearward on the rear ttube) and a little massaging of the fuel tank CORNERS helps also. You say under the bumper???? a 79 has turn downs behind the wheel. 76 was the last of the straight outs IIRC. Good to know they can be purchased!!

I the FlowMaster 3" setup on my '71 and the rear stabilizer links were the biggest PITA.

I will try to post some pics later today or in the morning. I was not trying to match the factory routing at the back. These pipes are made to exit the rear under the bumper. Main thing was that the bends are perfect for getting up over the axle and over to the side where they go between the leaf spring and the inner fender. I do not have a rear sway bar so not sure if that would be as issue. The drivers side brake line junction on the axle tube is close but it does clear.

Like mentioned, I've always used Torque Tech in the past for the 3" stuff and it always fit perfectly, but as we all know they are long gone and another source for something like this just hasn't been out there.

Would be nice to see some pics and know that we have another vendor out there that has stepped up to the plate for us guys that like to run 3" or bigger tail pipes, and have them actually fit properly.

Even more so if they actually mimic the shape and design of the OEM tips like Torque Tech did.

While mine are NOT perfectly in place due to no motor installed YET...they are fully attached to the car. The usual hangars just after muffler and the slide in hangar by the "end". Currently the front of the exhaust is "wired" up to ABOUT the correct height. Also note I did this back in maybe 93 or 94 (when dinosaurs roamed the land). Exit is out/back/down behind rear wheel...where the TA tips WOULD be...but just couldn't get a tight enough bend to make tips work...so she is slightly naked..lol

yeah the sway bar location makes it difficult to get that "zig" up top for the straight shot by the leaf..

That might be a problem with there 'stock' setup, but if they new you had center outlets maybe they could bend a set to match. They make them up per order anyway.

Lyells stainless exhaust in Ontario Canada makes full 3 inch exhaust..my car has the first set of 3 inch tailpipes on it from them. I just had to chop an inch of the upward section before the rearend for a good fit. I believe all their tailpipes now have the same modification.
