I have a 69 Firebird with a 400. Performer intake with a Road Demon carb. The cam has a duration of 214/224 @.050" with a lift of.443/.465. The block is a 1974 and has an HEI dist. What plugs should I be using for street use? At what Gap? The plugs that are in it now are NGK UR4, gap at 40. They are continuously fouling and between maybe the carb being too rich and the plugs being too cold, I want to make sure I've got the right plugs.

I have always liked the AC R45S in that application.

I also like the AC 45S, having run the same type of combination.

Dump the rod Demon and get your Quadra-Jet back on there. My favorite advice is to have a trusty Q-Jet to put on the car to sort-out the motor and plugs and timing curve. Then you can fool around with the Rod Demon all you want until you get it right.
Demon adj: Rely soley on the idle circuitry for idle. Re-jet the primary leaner, The plug problem is a symptom of rich idle, or Pri jetting or Accel-pump dumping. I suppose. A fresh set of Autolite 85's if you have a desire to fine listening music. Autolite 75s if you don't mind a little ignition buzz in the audio. HEI gappings still at .045"

I also have a 69Fbird, yet it is a 470CID, Autolight 75s or 85's and have no problem.
It's 29degrees out and has no choke-plate on the Q-Jet..I think I'll start it up right now and run an errand.

I use the AC45's gapped at .45 with no trouble. That is with a Speed-Demon carb on a 400 in a '68 Bird...Edelbrock torker...blah, blah, blah....you know.
