I have a couple of basic questions. Onto a 389, I'm putting on a Performer intake with stock 093 heads. 1st time for me. The main purpose of the car is to look cool and be reliable on the street. What should I torque it, being aluminum intake & cast iron heads? Should I use gasket sealer? Thanks!!!

27-32 ft-lbs.Should not need sealer if done correctly starting from center working out in a criss-crosss pattern in steps of 10 lbs.

You might also try using Fel Pro's #1233 intake gasket for the aluminum manifold. Edelbrock used to recommend this gasket in their installation instructions. I have used these several times without any type of sealer and had no leaks. I also use an adhesive like Edelbrocks Gasketcinch, a rubber cement type substance, on the head surface to hold the gaskets in place. The #1233 gasket has the RAIV port height but I have found that by trimming the gasket you can lower and center the gasket for a good fit on a standard Pontiac port.

Also be sure to tighten down the bolt that pulls the intake into the back of the water pump (at the crossover) BEFORE you pull your final torque on the intake bolts. Not doing so is asking for leaks at this junction. Try a smal dab of silicone (RTV - Permatex) on either side of the rubber O-ring that fits here as well to help seal it.

While we're on the topic of intake torque. What is the recommended torque specs for an alum. intinke into alum. heads? Would it be the same for alum onto steel? Thanks

I didn't know that Q-jets were so stylish. Does that make my Demon a fashion faux pas?
