Default Is VMP happening this year?

Is the "Pontiacs in the Park" at Virginia Motorsports Park happening this year?

Thanks,

Jim Zeek (who did all the legwork and invested all his time and money to start this East Coast Event) is no longer involved with the Pontiac event.

Only players come to mind that you would have to talk to:

The track itself and look on the website for a date or contact the General Manager

AllPontiac as a major sponsor and told me they might look into taking it over. Might.

Performance Years as a major sponsor from past years.

I spoke to my buddy at VMP in late Oct. He is their marketing manager at the track. He told me the '10 Pontiac event is doubtful.
Things are pretty down there since they lost their GM sponsorship as well as their NHRA National to Zmax in Charlotte.

Guess Bruton Smith is going to do the grass roots tracks of NHRA as he did the old NASCAR tracks that started the whole thing. All about money..? It's probably inevidibltle but sad..
I did see where VMP is going to have a IHRA Nitro Blast event...but there again...no Mountain Motor Pro Stock ??!! Hope VMP makes it...

Last I heard it was still being planned, for the last weekend in May. Ron is the PR guy at the track, he would be the one to talk to.

I was in the Shoot Out and talked with him..then & also at The Little Guys
Nats....
I hope it flys....I may try to make a IHRA meet...
I do notice Super Chevy is returning but it has changed hands to.

The last time I raced @ VMP in Sept 2009, I asked about the Pontiac race...

I dont recall a solid answer other than "possibly"...

The " Little Guy Nationals" is on the schedule at Northest Dragway this year...

http://www.northeastdragway.net/

IHRA is fine with me...

One can only hope, but in this economy it would be understandable if no sponsors come through. I've attended every one and enjoyed them all some years with 2 cars racing and showing. I'm curious if making it a BOP event would help?

I think VMP & US racers will be treated better by IHRA than NHRA.. I think things will be better under IHRA and draw more racers & fans ... The Key is good sponsors and rcaers supporting the track... So come and do your part, also remember that Richmond is also IHRA track, along with MIR .... So we all have several places to race at this year... Yes, it will be better....

No question in my mind that Allpontiac and Performance years will take over and their will be Pontiac's In The Park this year.

I would also put some money on that deal as it is the only east coast event for Traditional Pontiacs, is right in Bob's back yard, and I think the interest is still there.

Jim Zeek was the best, but it seemed like he couldn't get a break, just a string of bad luck. Both Norwalk and VMP is 11-12 hour drive for me. So I think people this year, they way the economy is will pick one or the other. But it's a great track and very accommodating to all the racers. If I had to choose between the two, I might pick VMP to help attendance. Allpontiac and Performance Years are great people and need the support.

YES, VMP will happen this year. The last weekend in May is planned for right now and boy will it have change from the previous years.

I cannot tell you all of the changes until there is a final decision from all involved.

Performance Years, AllPontiac and other sponsors will have an event at VMP. The car show will be a one day show, not a two day event.

Test and tune on Friday.

We will have all out racing on Saturday.

And Sunday will be a very special day for all who choose to stay that day. That is the day to be there for sure.
