Default Non Judge 1969 Carousel Red GTO

Anybody heard of or know of any 69 GTO's painted Carousel Red and not be a Judge (documented with build sheet). I thought this was a Judge only color. Thanks

Thru the years I have seen a couple. If I get a chance I will look to see if I have the PHS on them. I am almost positive one was a Ram Air III which was pretty cool.

I have a least two in my PHS stash. Must of been annoying back then with a car like that; the disapointed look on every face when you explained to them, "no its not a Judge, it's JUST a plain old GTO."

I almost bought loaded carousel red 69 GTO convertible from the original owner when I was a teenager in the late 1980's. He told me the whole story how it was special ordered in the carousel red and everyone thought it was a Judge. Quite uniqe and real rare. If you look at the paint chips for 69 you will see it on there marked as special order.

On a related note a customer could actually order any GM color they wanted then as long as you paid the extra fee for it. I worked with a guy whose parents owned a large Buick dealer and his dad would always order a few Gran Sports, Riverias and Centurion convertibles in non Buick colors.

I have PHS on a Ram3 TT GTO from eBay.

In person, I've seen way more Birds in factory T / 72 Carousel Red than GTO's.

On GTO it was extra cost @ $115.85

On Birds it was only @ $12.64

Someone on this site has an Orbit Orange GTO non Judge. It's a Pontiac car like mine and was built within a month of my car. He lives in Europe somewhere.

There was a Carousel Red vert running around Belmont, MA in the mid 80's.

Parchment interior and black top, 4spd, & power windows.

Sure was a pretty car.

How about a 69 GTO Carousel Red Ram Air III non-Judge? Better yet, how about 2..

Here is one that makes no sense B150742: Somebody ordered a 69 GTO in Carousel Red/Parchment with the Ram Air III engine, Rally II wheels, Ride handling package, and Special Order Paint for a total of $372.83 in options when they could have ordered the Judge package with all that stuff included for $337.02.

35 years later the car is restored with Judge wing and stripes added and the current owner has to explain "No It's Not a Judge, but it is a factory Carousel Red car"

And another oddball build R172170 is a Carousel Red/Parchment, Ram Air III, 4spd, non-Judge with poverty caps!

I love looking at these PHS sheets and imagining how they were brand new.

John

john ,you are absolutely right ,just order the judge ,and save some bucks, hindsight is 20/20,how many people 40 years ago that ordered these cars knew they were going to be worth something today,I say a small percentage, knew ,I mean if that was the case, everyone would get a ramair IV car, and a 4 speed ,some different color combos, like palladium silver exterior, blue interior, black exterior, red or gold interior, warwick blue exterior, parchment interior,so on and so on

I'm guessing that they liked the color but probably didn't care for either the spoiler or the "The Judge" decals or stripes.

Well, not every face would be dissappointed.
Along that same vein;

I think that's right. Heck, I'm just sorta, startin' to kinda' like those features on a Judge myself... that is, the decals and spoilers.
Personally, I prefer the Judge go-fast goodies without the visual package.

No PHS but a little info on a car I though about purchasing in the early '90s. I saw an ad in Hemmings for multiple cars and parts in TX and contacted the seller. He had been collecting cars for years when they were cheap and was ready to sell a few. One of them was an early production '71 GTO 455 HO that was special ordered in orbit orange. Low option car that only had (if I remember correctly) 455 HO, P.S., Rally II's and special order paint. The original WL engine was missing but I believe the three speed trans was there. Didn't end up purchasing the car but wish I had.

Anyway, I'm under the impression orbit orange was available early in the '71 production run.

Ditzler thought it was too:

Chiefpontiac, can you post a pic of the entire color card there? I'd like to save it in my files.
