Default What U joints should I use?

Well guy's I have been kicking around a bunch of senerios and this is another depending on what is left cash wise when things are all said and done. What I was wondering is what is the best set of U-joints to use in a stock style 69 Bird Drive shaft? The car had a 350 two barrel in it. This option is to use the shaft stock rear and rims for this season and shelve the racing. Thanks

Hmm will 1350 joints even work in this drive shaft? I might be running a Muncie for this year and swapping out that trany and the stock rear next. I want to be able to play this year with out buying a new drive shaft if that is possible??

I would highly reccomend a Spicer brand U-joint. Superior quality. I have been running Spicers for 35 plus years without failure on any vehicle.

I think the Muncie and TH350 yokes are the same? I know the TH400 is different. At any rate, the u-joint matches the yoke(unless you use a hybrid joint), so...to run 1350 joints you need a 1350 trans yoke and a 1350 yoke on the rear end. 1350's are the way to go, goodluck -Jim

So you think my stock drive shaft will be ok with 1350 joints and street tires? That shaft seems awful small anyone know what the stock shafts were rated for??

You will never get 1350 joints into a stock yoke.

The best (strongest) you can hope for is a no-grease-zerk solid/sealed U-joint of whatever size fits your existing yokes.

The 1350 will make the stock stuff look silly--but--you'll have to buy new yokes and have them welded onto the driveshaft; along with new yokes for the pinion shaft and trans output shaft.

Installing those yokes onto an ordinary stock driveshaft tube would be another massive waste of money. You'd just wind up the tube instead of breaking the U-joints.

Go with the solid/sealed U-joints until you can afford a proper custom driveshaft and 1350 joints.

Is it still a good idea to tack the u-joint caps to the yoke? It was suggested to me by a drag racer that I wouldn't be breaking so many front axle u-joints in my 77 Bronco. Can't say it it helped or not cause I kept breaking front ends.

Thanks Shurky this is what i was looking for! That stock shaft is totally pathetic and does not look strong enough to support the Hp the 350 came with. Shurky do you have a part number? Anyone?

Stock rear will let go before the driveshaft. Just replace your stock with solid u-joints. -Jim

I was looking at Jegs and I found what looks like a healthy joint from Lakewood anyone know if this will work with a stock 69 350 shaft??
