I'm currently looking for leads....

Theres a car out there, and the owner has been trying to say its an early GT37, and the first few hundred had 69 350HOs in them, he says they are left over motors and where used up......but since the 70 GTs are mid year, it doesnt make sense,,,he also says his is numer XXX of 1400..how could he know what the production number is....

lots of bad info out there...ive said things ive found out that wherent true also...i was repeating bad info....time and the information age has changed many urban legends..(i call them urban legends, because its not nice to call someone a liar)

Oh yeah, mine's an early '71. Built the last week of December 1970 so it has the red/white eyebrow stripes on Rosewood. Someone along the way painted it yellow before I bought it. I think it must've been a pretty good-looking car in the original color combo.

it's a 263 carb as mine came with the original motor. Eric's book, while great, has the wrong info on the stick 70.5 GT-37s. They are WTs as stated, not the WS. Eric's book also doesn't have the complete color breakdown on the 70.5 GT-37s, but that doc has since surfaced and pretty sure been posted on PY.
i dont remember seeing that, what thread was it posted in. thanks

Gosh, that's painful.

There is absolutely no reason why a 1970 car would have a 1969 motor like he's claiming. And, as was pointed out, the GT-37 was a midyear package, making this claim more outrageous. Would be great to see the car at a show and check out the build date.

found a 70 GT37 today, red with red cloth interior, but it looks like aftermarket 80s style JC Witney covers not sure..but the door panels dash and the rest is definately red.... bench seat 4 speed..post car with chrome window treatment...

all original..got to see under the hood too..had a 263 carb 12 heads, dual snorkel, chrome valve covers also was loaded up weird...like a convertible frame and 3.90 rear and a hood tach with ralley gauges...the dash bezel was wood grained instead of black and radio delete.... the coolest thing...rubber floor mats..no carpet..well i think its cool.......just repeating what the guy said about the rear....such a cool car, nice original survivor..he bought it new and raced here locally for three or 4 years...and parked...was smart enough to keep all the original stuff and sometimes in the 80s put it back to stock and rarely drives it...

he said i could come back and take pics...im so excited...and trying to buy it, but hes so emotionally attatched, going to be hard to get it...

he told me he was 19 when he bought it, and wanted a GTO but the insurance was so high his dad wouldnt let him get one, a salesman told him about the introduction coming up of the GT to wait a little bit, took 2 months to get the car and he ordered it the way it is...he told me the cost but forgot...he convinced his dad he needed the 4 speed and the posi for winter driving....and the hood tach and stripes freaked his dad out when they went and picked it up....and his dad thought someone stole the trim rings off the sales lot....i will get pics and scan some of his day two pics too...

That is a very unique sounding GT.
Post some pics and PHS if and when you get them.

That sounds like a well ordered car if you ask me!

Interesting car Mark, Would love to see a clear pic of the cowl tag. Yet to run across red as a '70 233 series interior color.
A pic of the boxing of the HD frame would also be neat.

at first i thought the interior was wrong, because i dint think it was available....and all the colors where red, but diff shades of red, the glove box was lighter than the dash, and the kick panels where darker, like sun fading..like an original would be, when everything is the same color, i assume a dye job...

when i started looking at it, it had the cheap door panels like my cars so i assumed it was right, but i dont know, i will get the info that i can

was red available on a 2 door post lemans?

I cant remeber seeing a red interior in anything but a 70 in the 70-72 series cars....

im not an expert, im learning daily...

The only red I see in the '70 Colors & Interiors book is on the LeMans Sport with bucket seats.

Mark, love to see some pics, or next time you look at it, take a close look look at the dash. A factory red '70 dash (actually more of a dark red) would be extremely rare in any Pontiac '70 A-body (know of two here locally). As a no a/c dash asm in a post car, it would come with no vents in the ends. I can think of only one model that style & color of dash could come in, & that would be a '70 LeMans Sport 2 door post.

If you have not looked at the VIN, maybe that's what this guy has, & a few things have been changed in the last 42 years. I ran across owner created GT-37's before, decades ago when I was sending out GT-37 surveys & burning up the long distance chatting with long time owners. That's why I asked about the cowl tag trim number. There is no promotional or parts book documentation of there being a red interior for a '70 23327 or 23337. Nice used red windlace, & what are now time ravaged maroon kickpanels, & a factory red dashpad could have been sourced used at one time, but what about the red vinyl or red parody cloth & vinyl seatcovers & red door panels & rear side panels? Red headliner in basketweave? With the factory embossed style of '70 23327 door panels being so hard to find in good shape, I can see a restorer over the last 20 years dying a nice pair a different color, but this situation is something different.

Found what I believe is a 71' GT-37, originally a 350 2V 3spd manual car. It's a rolling chassis, and not sure if it has a hood currently. Trying to get more info, and possibly purchase the car. It looks to be a dark brown - kind of root beer color. (I'm thinking Aztec Gold?) I'll post up more info once I find out more on my end.

A light Root beer color might be Castillian Bronze. Aztec Gold looks more like dark bronze.

I want to see another Castillian Bronze GT-37 since mine was originally that color.
