If there was something else you wanted to know , just ask .
i took it you were wanting to know about the different amounts listed . But specify whether you're asking about the Gold 3spd or the Bronze Automatic . |

It was fun shopping. Had all the brochures for a month or more before I went down and put my name on the line. 6 weeks later I picked it up in Seattle at the airport. 4 days later, drove it up the ALCAN to Homer, AK and then on the ferry to Kodiak. Out that October to CA so I could visit a friend and drag race it legally. Then back to Kodiak. That trip was 10K miles. No cruise and a stick. My foot still hurts thinking about it. Good thing I was 25 at the time.

I was born in 1971, but if I had been of car buying age that year, I'm fairly certain I would have ordered the exact same car. Well done, sir.

All the numbers / math work the same way as the other one .
There is one small oddity on the Bronze car - need to know the build date from trim tag. And if it still has date of mfg on driver door sticker - that info too. Then we'll go through the next row of boxes on that one. |

Don't know about Zone Rep car, but it was a Zone ordered car.
The ZAAxxxxxx at the bottom shows this. ('Z' is for Zone ordered) Your other PHS has PPAxxxxxx which the 1st 'P' is for customer ordered car.

I was told it was a zone car for about 8 months. Can you see that?

b) 4 month gap between mfg date and sale/ship date. Sold right at year model end/close-out. c) no discounts applied on Invoice - and there is a Hold Back amount listed. So the car was not driven or used for anything , nor discounted. It just sat somewhere for about 4 months. Sometimes discounted cars aren't labeled or marked all over with notations. Will just show *15 , *20 , *30 etc .... The easiest to spot indicator sometimes is .00 Hold Back on a discount car. That is always a common denominator. The Z prefix - without a Zone ID - tied with late ship date - made we wonder if it was a sales order placed so late that it missed cut off , and a Zone Rep had to step into the order to get it through. Thats why i wanted the build date . But ... with you supplying the build/mfg date - and what you said about having a build sheet with another dealer name clears all that up . Based on the data , and what you say - it was a no-sale lot lizard for the original ordering dealer , and a zone rep was able to place the car with another dealer. Or another dealer went through Zone Office to locate such type of car in other dealers inventory for a buyer. Post a copy of the buildsheet if you can . Also get the build date from the trim tag - just in case that is not the original door . |

Looked into my files and i already have a copy of your buildsheet from somewhere in the past.
It was originally ordered by another dealer. Uppermost left corner shows the order number. It starts out with P - means it was originally dealer ordered or customer ordered. On your Invoice the order number is blank . That goes hand in hand with the car being shuffled. IF it had been zone ordered to begin with - there would be an order number on your Invoice , and the order number on the buildsheet would have the Z prefix. If it had stayed with and been sold by the original ordering dealer - the Invoice would have order number box showing 0874245 or 874245. Looks like it was built either April 3rd , 13th , or 23rd or April 8th , 18th , or 28th Can't make out what it used to say for dealer name area . Maybe you can viewing it n person. Here is a better copy of another 71 Atlanta to compare with . |

BVZ, the second car was sold at the dealer in Alexandria, VA that my car in high school ('71 LeMans Sport) was sold new at, but mine was built in Pontiac not Atlanta. Is that common for a dealer to get cars from two different plants?

It's common enough in most cases .
Once Zone Office approves the order - scheduling builds is done by the higher ups. Bean counters and whatnots determine which plant is best suited at that time for that body style. Location is considered too - to keep destination charges in a realistic check - when its applicable. You wouldn't see any 70-72 GTO's coming to NC from Fremont. But if it were a certain thing or type that only 1 plant handled - it could happen . Just going by general things here. Had about 6-7 plants doing 70-72 A body builds including Canada. |

Cool
Was built April 3 (04A) 087424 is the order number on your trim tag - that coincides with buildsheet AT(atlanta) 01964 is the body sequence number on your tag - that coincides with b.sheet Was dealer ordered by the Charlotte dealer for stock/inventory - not Customer Order. Notice the Alexandria VA b.sheet has XXX Customer Order in lower right hand. |

Meant to tell that the April 3 (04-03) is in that upper left box on your b.sheet
The 75 there beside the 04-03 ... combined with the 0514 all the way across on the far right in upper box - coincides with the 750514 on your trim tag. But i dont know what it means 100%. [think the 75 is either the build line - or a timeline] [think the 0514 might be the consecutive number of A-Body built at that plant - but that is mighty low..... so .. ] Held For Ransom is a genius with 70 models and Fremont B.sheets - amongst other things. 71 Atlanta B.sheet is very similar to 70 Fremont B.sheet so he might can give the exact answer about that detail. B80 on your trim tag is Fisher code for drip rail / roof moldings. On your PHS Invoice the invoice Identification Number ZAA602xxx represents the 602,xxx consecutive Pontiac invoiced by PMD in 1971. 1st digit Z = zone order P= dealer or customer order 2nd digit Plant where built 3rd digit How the dealer paid PMD A= GMAC Financing B= Private Bank arranged line of credit C= Cash or Check Then there are about 8-10 more alpha codes that relate to different type things that can be there in special circumsatnces. off hand - J , L , R , S , T , V , Y The HRS 2.3 i have seen a few speculations on this , but they don't seem to fit just right overall. It appears to be a measurement of hours . Usually all range from 2.2 to 2.4 But not all even have it listed. None of the GTO's or Judges i have on file list that. 023 next to dealer name is the GMAC Branch Code that handled Sonny Hancock's GMAC Financing. And thats about all there is to it . |
