My 67 GTO has an original Three-spd manual (Dearborn) transmission made by Ford. As much as I've learned that this is a poor tranny I'd like to stay original. Does anyone know where a rebuild kit is available and what tranny this is other than described above?

Dan

I don't know anything about the Dearborn transmission, but offer this thought to you...

If you were to put in a GM three speed, no one would ever know that it had been changed. Just keep the old one in case that would mean something to someone else when, and if, you ever sell the car.

I just happen to have the 3 speed manual from my wife's 72 Camaro in case you're interested... (realistically, you could probably find one locally for what it might cost to ship this one).

Thanks, but if I did change it I would probably put a 4-spd in. This was my Dad's car and I want to keep it original for now.

our 70 GTO had the Dearborn 3 Speed. That is a strong trans. I suggest you would run quicker ETs with that trans instead of a 4speed. Also, that 3 speed was alot of fun. Could hold 2nd gear for a good long time.

The factory shifter was really worn though. We would catch 2 gears and lock the trans up on the highway, on ramps, etc ...pretty exciting.
