One wire means one wire. We sell them too. Have sold them to alot of hotrodders and farmers. If it was mine I'd just put a meter on it at idle to see what was going on. Just a thought, I havn't used one yet.
As a side note most parts stores should carry them. The part number should be something like P7127SE. The SE stands for self exciting. I saw somewhere that you could make your own with two short pieces of wire and an early GM alt. Will try and find it again. [ May 23, 2002, 05:50 PM: Message edited by: Dan&Dot ]

The RPM depends on the pulley arrangement you have. Also, once it excites it keeps charging, even at lower RPM. It is a one time turn on thing. I usually have to rev my racecar engine to about 2000-2500 RPM one time to get the alternator to charge. That is with a small crank pulley.

I already had a aftermarket gages but I haven't
hooked the alt up yet.On another note,I noticed the idiot light stayed on when I started it up just now.Do I need to just pull the bulb out? Eric |

I was wondering what the deal was with mine. I start the car,the battery gauge is about halfway, and if I use the power windows, headlights etc,the thing will lose charge. but when I gun it once,to about 2500,the gauge shoots up to 3/4,and never goes back down. live and learn I guess.
