Default Pontiac V8 Lifter questions

In the past 5 years....I've heard and read all the horror stories....about new camshaft/lifter failures...

What brand is currently the go to?

I look on Ebay or other places that have old stocks of NOS lifters before ordering new. If that falls thru I order these:

Crower cam savers is what I would try if HLJ are out of stock. I have heard some companies are buying unfinished lifter bodies from Hylift Johnson and finishing machining them in house in their own facilities. Not sure who that all includes. Keep a look out for poorly done machining.

I recall your engine builder went thru two sets of lifter before he found 16 lifters he was happy with the crown’s machining. If he has not done that you may have made it too 2000 miles. That type of extra effort is key for successful flat tappet cams these days.

The Butler lifters that Jay recommended are Hy-Lift Johnson lifters and made in the USA they are a good lifter. If I were ever to go with flat tappet lifters again I would go with a solid cam and lifters lifters with the hole in the bottom to oil the lobes. Solid lifers are not noisy and don't require constant lifter adjustment like some think.
