howdy, friends,

my 69' Judge's original RAIII 273 carb was long ago lost so I'm in the process of building a 7029268 QJ suitable to the WS400, 041 cam, 48 heads, 4spd and 3,90s that currently reside in the car.

Cliff provided me a suitable rebuild kit and also kindly repaired inlet threads, modified idle circuit, re bushed and pressure tested carb.

I soaked all the pieces-parts in Berryman parts cleaner and lo and behold lost all part's original plating. I have <not> cleaned air horn, body or base yet.

I'm not super concerned that carb looks brand new so I'm wondering a good way forward here? If I use mineral spirits on body parts and rebuild w/o plating smaller parts they'll rust right? I would consider having stuff zinc plated if I knew who to call.

Some thoughts'd be appreciated. Thanks,

It's not standard procedure to remove the secondary fuel supply nozzles for a rebuild. when you push them back in they will have lost their "memory" and fall out easily. Make sure that you loctite them in place and stake next to them. If they come loose they are going thru your engine and no one will be happy at that point.

As far as plating goes if you want all the metal parts plated fully expect to be missing 2 or 3 pieces when they show back up after waiting weeks or even months for the company you hired to get to them. I tried that deal early in my business and not one single time did I get ALL the parts back. I tried several sources and same deal, so I ended up just buying my own equipment and doing all that in house......
