Steel wheels for 67 Disc Brake equipped GTO's...codes...HB?
Hello Forum DudeMen,
I have pretty much gotten my GTO fit for regular use. Still lots of detailing, but it's pretty much complete and fun to drive now. I have Rally I wheels now, I am currently fixing up a set of JA Rally II wheels for a cool extra set, and crazy enough I want to get a full set of steel wheels. My car came with disc brakes from the factory, and when I bought the car, it had 14x6 steel wheels that did fit the disc brakes. But I was a dope and didn't realize they were different, and I've lost them over the course of a few moves. My goal is to put together a third set of wheels, the ones that PHS says my car came with new, steelies with wire wheel covers. So I see in the manual that the steel wheel code for a 67 GTO with disc brake application was "HB". Can anyone tell me where that code is located on the wheel? Is it by the valve stem like the Rally wheels codes are? I was also thinking of expanding my search for wheels that would fit, such as the 68 and 69 steel wheels that fit disc brakes. I want to stick with 14x6. Any ideas on those codes? Thankee

Checked my January 1972 release Pontiac Factory Parts book. Here's what you need. Grp # 5.803, part # 9791450, wheel 14" X 6" stamped "HF" by the valve stem. Application= '67 Tempest/GTO with Disc Brakes, all '68-'69 Tempest /GTO (exc Rally Wheels), some '69 Grand Prix's.

Thanks YNOBIL,
That gives a few more part numbers to look for. I also noticed that the Tempest cars used 5 inch width wheels, and if I see it right, they did make a disc brake wheel in a 5 inch width (at least for 1967). I would imagine those are even harder to find than the 6 inch width wheel. Thanks, Dave

More Info
Dave, Took a second look and there's so many variations. Wanted to make sure you had all the facts including the 5" wide rim. This is the page out of my book. It's odd at the bottom on 1969 GP your rim is for drum brake instead of disc.

Thanks for the scan. I must admit it confuses me how to read it. I don't even see where "HB" is listed. But I do see where at least the comments say "disc brake" or not. Soon I will start hunting. There is a guy local who has parted out a zillion GTO's and LeMans. I may pay a visit soon. I will also possibly post here on PY when I get some more funds. I picked up a couple of Pontiac wire wheel 'caps at a local swap meet. They need resto so I will attempt to take them apart. I'm bummed I lost my original steel wheels. Oh well! Thanks, Dave
