ceramic coating exhaust manifolds
Hi All,
I have a pair of 67 Ram Exhaust manifolds that I would like to get ceramic coated. (e.g. Jet hot). I live in the Detroit, MI area and wondered if anyone has done this and had good results? If so, what vendor did you use? Brad |

Lots of people like the coatings but I had a bad experience with my LB manifolds. I bought them coated from RARE and within a year they were speckled in rust. I then had them blasted and used the POR 15 manifold coasting and that lasted much longer. Maybe they’ll give you a warranty for the work.

Being quite a somewhat porous manifold surface it is best for your own hand applied coating versus a jet hot type or cerakote in most cases.
If you can find a good cerakote person, have them bake the manifolds first to get impurities out before they spray them. |

I've seen some other postings indicating that Cerekote and or Jet Hot coatings are good, but you need to make sure the surface is super clean and the coatings are applied correctly. Not sure how much experience is required to get a good result. Brad |

Save your money and just prep and paint them with the POR-15 manifold paint.
Super expensive ceramic manifold coating with no real guarantee? No thanks.

I've used regular rattle can engine paints which held up semi OK on parts that didn't get too hot, but the paint immediately burned off on the exhaust ports and started peeling around the thermostat housing. (I had a leak develop there). Wondering if I should have used a different paint product and possibly primed first? Brad |
