Default What can I reasonably expect to pay for a 05/06 GTO? (no more than 40-50k miles)

Over the course of my Father's life, he owned about 6-7 GTOs, all 64-67.

I cannot afford a car like that ever since they skyrocketed in price. Plus, i'm looking for a DD. I use that term loosely. My 2013 WRX which I tastefully modded had 41k miles on it. I bought the car new along with a 2012 GT (5.0). If you're wondering, I totaled my WRX in June 2020, otherwise I wouldn't be looking for another car and just focus on modding my 86 GT. As for my 2012 GT, I sold it when the market was crazy high for used cars, and it went to the perfect new owner in AZ, who planned all kinds of mods for it. Total Ford guy all the way and also had a SVT Raptor.

Although it will be my daily, I don't expect to put many miles on it. I work less than 10 miles from where I live and honestly most of the miles I put on my WRX was to school and when I would come home during breaks or just whenever U wanted to see my parents. I went to THE Ohio State University and I live in MD, so the trip was always very smooth without any hiccups and I put around 380-400+ miles one way. So about 800 miles round trip and I made the trip maybe 6-7 times a year for the duration I was there, which was about 4 1/2 years..

So, must of my driving is pretty much local with really the longest local trip is to my friend's house who owns a modifieds 86 Mustang GT like me which is maybe 45 minutes away.

I plan to mod the car of course, but i'm not looking for anything crazy. I'm going to take take the same approach as I did on my WRX, I modded it until I had a fun DD for all 4 seasons and the car made a respectable 308/339 AWHP on the dyno when it was tuned.

Albeit more power, but i'm looking to do H/CI, full exhaust, obvious mods like a short throw shifter, upgraded tires (meatier on the rear), and the 18" version of the stock wheels. I'm not sure which models came with the nicely looking 18s that fill out the wheel well vs. the 17s. If it doesn't already have those, I would plan to buy those. I'm going for a stock look, some suspension mods, and really nothing too crazy. I've been down these path with my past 3 Mustangs and WRX, but i'm really looking for a car that's a change of pace for me, something different, is powerful enough, but not overbearing . Of course I want the 05/06 instead of the 04 since I want an LS2 and not the LS1, better hood, taillights, 18" wheels, and no idea what Pontiac was think with that single exit exhaust on the 04.

Anyways, back on point, I am looking for an 05/06 GTO with 40-50k miles. I would prefer it to be stock to lightly modded as in an intake and catback.

What can I honestly expect to pay for a car with the requests i'm asking for?

I personally I was thinking in the $18,500-23,000 range. Please tell me if i'm on the mark, way off, or somewhat close. Thank you!

Yikes, A little more than I want to pay. Hopefully I can find others. Of course eBay always has jacked up prices when it comes to cars. Buying models, no problem, buying the real deal, well...

That is a price I could work with. TBH, i've never owned a single LSX car, but I cherish diversity in my car family.

Why did it need a new engine at 37000 miles on it? Not a big fan of that colors either. I’ve been looking for a 4th gen trans am and a lot of them are that color too.

The ask of $29,000 is more than I paid for my 05 new from the dealer.

To the OP, my 05 has 140,000 on it now, don't be afraid to buy one with higher miles on it. The only 2 major problems are the front suspension bushings, and strut bearings, and the leather on the seats drying out and shrinking. Very few problems with my car other than those 2 areas.

I just googled 06 GTO price locally. Some around 20k,with mileage under 50k. A friend last yr was looking for 06 GTO. Went to Philly dealer changed price. So he found one in color he wanted in Cincinnati. Not sure of what he paid.

I remember when you and I had this discussion with the guy from Texas (Goathead), he said they'd never be worth anything, they'd never appreciate in value...........

Thanks for the input. I found a black one with 54k miles, very clean, basically just bolt-ons and comes with extras like Kooks headers and other parts. He is is asking $20k for it, which sound reasonable to me. I'm not a fan of black cars since they show every mark. Black cars look great when they are perfectly clean and waxed, but they show imperfections easily and dirt as well.

I wish 05/06 GTOs came in Marina Turquoise, that would look great. Almost like a new Mustang coming in coming in Calypso like the Fox Body's did. Not Calypso Coral, which is orange that the 69/70 Mustangs had as an optional paint color. I'm talking about Calypso, which is that sea foam green color some of the later Foxes were available in,

This is the color I meant that later 90/91-93 Fox Bodies came in.

These are fantastic cars and seem to be going up in value. We still have our 04 we bought new- I think it has 46k on it now.

Around here where we don’t have to deal with snow and can drive them year round I see them going for mid 20’s

This one looks good although I never loved the metallic black but I do like the red interior.

Thanks for posting some cars guys, but I won't be able to afford one until this fall. Technically I could buy one right now, but I would be stretched to my limit and I would be buying microwave dinners to afford the car, insurance, my house, my other car and I would have no discretionary fund.

Not exactly the way I want to live for the next few months. Right now i'm slowly fixing/modding my Fox Body and putting some money away every couple weeks toward the GTO until fall. I do appreciate the discussion about 05/06 GTOs. Any information is helpful.

You should be able to find one in your price range. 18k-23k is not out of line. My son wanted one of these in the worse way, should have bought when they were under 10K! I try to keep up on the price of them. I think they have already bottomed out for the time being and are on a steady rise. Still some low mileage ones out there that are starting to command strong money. If you are not a member of POCI you may want to join. They come up for sale in the classifieds there from time to time as well.
