Default I am looking at a 65 HT, need value opinions

I am looking at an 1965 Femont built GTO. It was delivered to CA and spent the first 20 years there before moving to MI in 1985. It has the CA air cleaner system. It was repainted sometime prior to 1985. The paint has a lot of scratches and crazing. They do not show up in the photos. The body appears to be solid and rust free. I believe the car has the original drive train - 389 4 barrel, 4 speed and posi. It also has padded dash, AM radio with reverb and gauge package. The car seems to be complete but has 117,000 miles and is a bit tired. In the current market, what is this car worth?

subjectively 18-24000 maybe. More back east because the economy seems to be recovering better.

interesting air cleaner, never seen one like that,

personally I would spen the extra coin and detail the engine compartment. alot of aftermarket junk harms the value

I see the cluster bezel does not have the wood applique.

That's the third GTO I've seen (two documented original cars) like that.

Well, you can buy a nicely restored car with that configuration for about $23-28K. Considering this car needs paint, and probably other cosmetics that are not obvious in the picture, I would subtract $10K or more, bringing the price of this car to the $13K-$18K range. I'm not saying the seller will take that amount, but that is my thought.

It's a nice car as it sets, but if you want to change paint, fresh chrome, tail panel, etc., it would cost nearly as much to freshen it up as a cheaper car that's not so nice. The underhood/correction (fan, lines, air cleaner, etc.) restoration wouldn't cost nearly as much as the body.

If you would be satisfied with the body, trim as is, buy it. If you're going to redo the body, Andre' is right---you can buy a really nice car for $23-$28K.

Thank you everyone for your opinions. The asking price on the car is $18K which seems to be a bit high.

Dick: I believe the air cleaner is correct for the CA cars. Can someone verify?

Wonder if the fact that the red line pointer is set at 7000rpm has anything to do with it being a little tired?

I feel, upon looking at the pics, 18K is a very good buy. The Custom Deluxe Wheel covers are almost impossible to find in decent shape, alone. Larry B.

I saw that as well. It seems to be a bit optimistic!
