Default 7029273 carburetor parts identification

I have a friend who has a 7029273XB 0389 carburetor body in a box of spare Quadrajet parts. The carburetor was given to him in the early eighties and was torn down. There are other parts in the box. How can we determine if any of the other parts are original to the carburetor?

Boiler, Is it a 7029273 or a 7029262 ? If you put up some individual pictures of the pieces that you hope go with the carburetor, some of these guys may help tell you yes or no on some of them.

If you want to go the deluxe route, there was a master catalogue for all Rochester Quadrajet assemblies and parts with actual size identification drawings for every part number through 1975? I think, on eBay for about 150 bucks. Looked authentic and it was HUGE.

It is a 7029273XB 0389 I fat fingered the previous message.

In addition to the the RA carb. he has a 1969 and a 1970 Olds W31 carburetor. The parts are pretty much mixed up with base plates and top sections of lesser carburetors. I'll get pictures of the bases and the top sections and post them to see if any of them go with the RA body.

Here are the PNs for the bases in the box:

7037174 and 7037170

The main body and throttle body are correct for RA carbs. The air horn appears to be from a base four barrel carb.

I was about to say that the holes are missing in the primary throttle plates. Then, to my surprise, I noticed the plates are missing. Oops!

Default Airhorn for RA carb

Thanks for the information! Is there any type of feature we should be looking for to identify the correct airhorn?

The air horn that you want is part number 7037454 and is machined to accept a circular clip within the casting that surrounds the hole through which the accelarator pump shaft exits the horn. The clip is used to retain the rubber "bellows" that seals off the accelerator pump shaft, which is unique to the ram air carbs. The air horn that you have pictured does not appear to be correct. The 7037174 base is the correct one for this carb.

Default RA Carb Airhorn

LPete: Thanks for the picture offer!

BLKBRD: Thanks for the description!

We will take a look at the other airhorns and see if any of them match the description and the picture when it is posted.

I don't believe that Jon Hargrove (username "carbking" on this site) of The Carburetor Shop does resto's anymore, but you could check with him.

I believe that Jim McGowan of The Quad Shop is still doing resto's and I can tell you from personal experience that he does fabulous work.

You can also contact Cliff Ruggles (username "Cliff R" on this site). He also does resto's and is a master at squeezing every ounce of performance out of a carb.

There are also many other carb resto shops around the country. If you do an internet search, you'll probably find one in your backyard.

Default RA IV carb parts all found!

Digging through some more boxes last weekend my friend found the proper air horn. He is going to assemble the carb. Can anyone recommend a place to get a correct kit? Do any of the kits come with the bellows for the accel pump?

Would you take a photo of the accelerator pump area, and also show where you found the date code?

Mike

The date code on this one is stamped on the main body (see my post form 7/29). I don't have the parts here, they are at my friend's house. I should see him this weekend and I'll get a picture.
