Default Frame seals on 1970 RA IV cars?

I see these listed on one site as for AC cars and on another for AC, RA III and RA IV. Are they correct of a RA IV or is one site just trying to sell seals? Here is a previous thread on them: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=636748 It seems as if there was not a consensus in 2010. Is there one now?

89 views and not a single comment. I will assume the usage is still in question. We are going to go ahead and put them on. If nothing ls they will marginally help with cooling and we can remove them easier than add them later.

In 69 the use of those seals is related not to A/C itself but HD cooling which was included with the A/C option (HD cooling doesn't appear on the PHS since its included in the AC option). They would also be present in cars equipped with a RA IV or any car ordered with 3.90 or higher axle ratio where HD cooling was not included but was a mandatory option (therefore HD cooling shows on the PHS). And lastly any car not in the above list could always be ordered with HD cooling as a stand alone option.

All of the above is clearly documented for 69 and while I don't have as much 70 literature I've never seen anything that would indicate a change in this pattern for 70.

Where it gets fuzzier is fans, AC cars all came standard with a 7 blade clutching fan (versus the regular 5 blade flex fan) but that wasn't part of the HD cooling package. 2bbl non AC cars used a 4 blade fixed fan and factory literature seems to indicate that RA IV cars did also but I never saw a factory RA IV car with anything other than the 5 blade flex fan in my bone-yarding days in the 70's and 80's. However 99% of RA IV cars didn't have their original engines so who knows.

Further confusion is from two other fan options, first is that you could order a clutching fan ($15.80) as a stand alone option on non air cars and it was available with or without the HD cooling option (I have examples of both in my PHS collection).

Second was a HD flex fan ($10.53) which was a 7 blade (rather than 5 blade) flex fan. It was available with or without HD cooling and if ordered on a car with A/C it became a no charge option (so it won't show on the PHS). It was also a mandatory option when ordering the towing package (regardless of A/C or not).

Default Clutch fan

I ordered my 70 RamAir4 Gto with the clutch fan option . Was informed that it was not available on RA4 cars and it was delivered with the 5 blade flex fan. Just thought you needed to know. Paul

Makes sense. Btw I've got to ask you to tell us about your RAIV purchase, don't know too many people who were owners of new RAIV cars!
