Even if you only have a small Dremel tool with a stone polish up that area as it can help make
Cracks show up better.

If there is a crack, and it's hard to see, all you need to do is heat it with a propane torch. As the metal expands the crack will usually widen, allowing you to see it more easily.
From your picture, I can't see anything obvious, but it doesn't mean it's not there. Try some heat to see if it shows up better. I'd also ask what method they used to determine there was a crack to begin with. The reason there are test procedures is to find cracks not easily seen with the naked eye. You might also want to get a magnifying glass and study the area more closely too. |

I have witnessed someone using a dye detection kit, it showed up the crack when the red bleeds back through the white. Only time I've seen one used was that time, but there was no doubt where it was after the test. This wasn't in an automotive setting, but in a tool and die shop. |

Dye penetrant tests can find defects too fine for Mag tests, but they need a smooth surface to not hold dye. Sanding stone will work great.

The last set of Buick heads I was porting a thought for sure I had found a crack so I stopped.
The owner then took the head to get Mag tested and it showed zip.

At this point I have to take his word until I can polish it out and try a little heat and the dye penetrate kit, if nothing shows I'd still rather have a a second opinion from another shop but there all 2 to 4 hrs away
