The RA manifolds are good for moderately modified engines, but a decent set of 4-tube headers will out-perform them. Depending on the engine mods you will be giving up between 10 and 40 HP (or more!) running the RA manifolds versus a good set of headers .
For a street car with a modified engine the RA manifolds are are a good choice, good ground clearance and last forever. But good headers (like Dougs) WILL out-perform them, whoever told you that they were better than headers performance-wise is incorrect.

Well how much $ dose a good set of coated Dougs headers for a 77 Trans Am with a 400ci cost?
And don't they make locking header bolts for Pontiacs?

Robert, the shorty headers posted similar(+/- appx.2-5 hp.)as the R.A. manifolds(a/f body) in car crafts junker to thumper pontiac build I believe.I don't have exact numbers lost my copy and the article on they're website does'nt have the whole article.Still down some from full length headers too.

a good set of 4 tubes are the best.I think like b man says for a good street engines the 67-69 birds are the best. They dont fit on all car though. The build up was a stock RAIII 69 T/a engine.Tom
