Woodruff Key?
Do you have to take the timing gears off to get the key out of the crank? I can't budge it.
Thanks, Dave |

YES.
Soak the timing gears. Remove the bolt and excentric for the fuel pump then take off the cam gear first. Take off the chain, now you can get a pair of screwdrivers behind the lower gear and remove it. Then inspect the woodruff key. Tom V.

I've always had to "walk" both gears off the crank and cam in order to remove the chain...

and be sure to use a NON-MARRING (brass or plastic) to tap in the new one. Or even use channel locks with tape on BOTH jaws.... You do not want to buger it up.

Yes, andprofoundly easy. Well, until install; THAT can be a jamb-up so be sure to level the key, THEN drift the Lower gear into place with the timing Chain/Upper Gear on the Ready.

I use the claws of two claw hammers, one on each side of the gear to walk each gear of little by little.
Works like a charm!
