Valve cover fitment 69 Firebird
I have the stock valve covers on my 69 Firebird...the regular chrome ones. I've been looking for some other options since the HS rockers hit them. I'm looking at the Butler black aluminum ones 2 3/4" tall part # BFA-VC-CUSTOM. I still have the stock alternator mounting. Anyone have these with the stock alternator location? Years ago I got a set of fabbed aluminum dirt cheap and I tried putting them on but the hit the alternator stud. It looks like there is a lip on them, most of the ones I see come straight up from the rail.

Re-clock the alternator / use thicker gaskets 3/8 are avail. If only the end rockers are touching file them down on the top edge a few 1000s.

I use 1.65 HS rockers with 400 lobe lift hyd roller cams under stock covers with the thick gaskets.HS rockers need to be ground on 4 of them where they hit the bolt valve cover boss.Have been doing it for 20 years. They have a newer version that are not squared off and dont have to be ground.Tom

.660 lift with stock covers? Cork Gaskets? All the poly locks hit on mine with rubber standard fel-pro gaskets. Do you grind down the 4 at the corners?

Yes, and when I had the 69 Birds with M/T cast covers, same deal.
Re-clocking the Alternator is a nice thing i did to allow popping covers while hot. Better clearance clarence for angling around the Vacuum Brake booster. |
