Default 1967 Engine unit numbers

I have seen this on 3 different 67 GTO's. On the PHS, engine unit numbers have the 2 letter engine code then only 4 of the engine unit numbers on the manifest. For example, WS1234 instead of 123456. Most of the ones I have seen have the 6 digit numbers except for these 3. Has anybody else seen this or have an explanation why? Was it certain plants just doing this? All 3 where built late in the year, April or later. Thanks!

Do you have pics these?

Do you have any of the engines with that phs numbers?

I wonder if it just shows the pertinent numbers, with the 1st numbers are zeros so of no significance?

No pics or engines. These were cars I was looking at buying. I've been looking at a few and these 3 were the oddballs. The engines were stamped with 6 numbers and the 2 letter code but the PHS listed the 2 letter engine code then only 4 of the 6 numbers in the engine unit number of the manifest.. Only 1 of the cars was a match with the 4 numbers. I've never seen this just wondering if anybody else has. Thank you..

I had the same question when I received my PHS docs.
I have had the car for over 30 years and was certain the engine was original. I finally ordered the docs this year for the heck of it. I saw only 4 numbers on the billing document and not the last two digits that are on the block. Here is what PHS said when I asked him about it.
Car is a Fremont Ca car. I live near there.

to PHS
My car is stamped YSXXXX59 and the invoice only shows YSXXXX
Was wondering if the last two digits are omitted sometimes?

Different plants sometimes use the engine code rather than all of the digits. That would be the original engine in your car.

FWIW I also have questionable paperwork from a Fremont car but it's a 69. I also have read that things happened differently there. Maybe Jim is on to something.

Was that the eun on the billing card?

If so what is on the engine?

The 2 I looked at were built at Freemont so I think we are on to something. Thanks for all the replies and have a Merry Christmas!

"Was that the eun on the billing card?"
Yes. And numbers on block correspond with of course two additional numbers
