BJ, Slow progress like aged wine. Poor Dan Jensen needs surgery to fix shoulder. But, he seems in good spirits. Can't rush good things. Still have other cars to drive...Thanks, the white one is still fun to relive the 70's!

Maybe next year for the GT-37?

[QUOTE=Lloyd-TX;3922983]1)
2) 1971 GTO ad

These 71 ads always irked me!! Main problem is that they were BS.

This "tractive force" thing is simply not true in the sense that the axle ratio did not change from 70 to 71!!! A regular engine GTO both years was equipped with a 3.55 axle without AC and 3.23 with AC.

Second is that the idea of touting the simple lowering (numerically raising) of axle ratios as some kind of engineering breakthrough is pretty low. Notice how they are quick to mention the minor benefits of low lead gas like slightly longer spark plug life but they fail to point out the major disadvantages of axle ratio changes like much higher fuel consumption, higher wear and tear on the engine, lower top speed and higher noise levels.

In other ads they go on about the "new" suspension eliminating "ridge nibble". Check the part numbers for front end components in 70 and 71, they are all the same part numbers. Buick or Olds went even farther calling these minute changes in alignment specs a whole new suspension concept (they marketed it as "G" ride or something).

Don't get me wrong, I like the cars, I just get annoyed by this kind of blatant false advertising.

Yes, but '71 was the ****z after the real best car guys left that were better at adwork and not beancounting, IMO.

Still good work out of the 71 cars here.....considering lots of uphill battles for the day, respectfull to me.

Can understand though.

F rock. No flat tire. Yes thats curb rash. This car was bought new on Hylan blvd. on Staten Island at Star Pontiac, if any of you are familiar with it. My moms uncle bought the car brand new and actually lived on hylan blvd., where there wasnt much parking. They did however have a 1 car garage that was smaller than the car, hence the side damage, not to mention he was 2 years older than dirt when he bought it, but they had a vw they drove most of the time, so the GTO sat in the garage, so it only has 34000 miles to this day. The tires had more wear on the sidewalls than the tread! It was ugly but had 0 rust even coming from NY. My uncle called me one day and said "do you want uncle harry's car?" Answer, ABSOLUTLY! I was 19, and it only took 20 years to restore it. Now i have 4 more to do. Ive had it since 1986 and sold it in 2007. You dont know how bad i wanted to drive it all those years and i think ive driven it about 5 times in 20 years. The automatic just didnt do it for me and i didnt have the balls to cut a hole in the floor for a 4 spd. in an all original, all numbers matching car with 34000 miles on it. Although i couldnt stand that tropical lime so i painted it black, now look what i've got! Look familiar?

Apologies for the late response to this thread. Here's a picture of my car from what I think is the early 80s. The car was located in Oregon. It's originally Quezal Gold - painted black a long tme ago. It's still a numbers-matching 400 M-20. One of the previous owners found it on TUGTOPS about five years ago and e-mailed me out of the blue. When we quickly determined that he was right - that this was his former car - her e-mailed a bunch of old pictures to me. These are from parade advertising a hair salon. Classics.

FRock, pictures and thread remind me of fun weekend, and old memories.

I had a fun weekend with my 15 YO daughter. It was her and I home on a nice Saturday night (grounded). So, I saw she was watching "dazed and confused" and was laughing at the people. I never saw the movie. So, I started watching and noticed it was like my era in HS!

The people, cars, situations, etc..Especially the cars (70 OO Judge/GTO). These were the real cars around during my daze...primer, cragars, racing on streets, reckless cruising with the boyz. The GTO reminded me of mine, hs, situations. It was great to watch together, and tell her my stories(she must have been like and your're grounding me?). I showed her my yearbook (78) and it is the same school she attends.

Much more rules today. But, kids still love the times of the seventies as she explained to me.

Hard to believe what I lived thru what kids would think is cool today? I even drove a 71 GTO as my car, raced chevellles, TA's, etc. Funny I never felt cool? It was just growing up and having fun I guess.

This is my ride in 76-78. Sold it right after I graduated HS. These were pix from the for sale ad back in the day circa 1978. CC, sienna 400/4 speed all stock except for tires and mudflaps.

Thanks! Mine was a posi, which as cool in summer, and not so good in winter. I bought it for around 2k with gas prices around .40? It had original paint all original including exhaust, tires, and clutch with about 77K mileage. Bought with a summer job, and a Daddy loan.

It was fun doing my first burnout in car. Smelled really good! Needed new tires, clutch, and exhaust in a week after the fun ended. Insurance and reality hit hard as growing up was expierenced quickly.

Sold car for around 2K to go to college as gas prices started to soar to about .80? Bought a 73 Duster with straight six

Your GTO sure looks a lot like mine!

Mine showed up in Iowa City, IA about 1985 with fresh paint and no decals. A friend bought it and drove it in High School. He cracked a piston and parked it in 1988. I bought it in 2006 (it had not moved since 1988).

The attached pictures shot the chrome mud flaps. I don't remember if it has screw holes for wheel lip trim.

The pictures were taken the day I brought it home.

Good choice in car Carmak! Your's optioned pretty darn close to my old one. Not sure where it went. Maybe the same option probably not the same car. Great HS cruiser!

Differences:

I put in a indash tape player and speaker in doors like BJs. Shag carpet, and yours is clearly a nicer stock interior.

Also shifter was stock with a hurst t-handle and black ball in glove box, and no console.

BTW: BJ yours came that way(speakers), and I always wanted a 455HO RA 4 speed with 8 track. Then, I wanted a 71 Judge and liked white/black look. Still have the 71 Judge for cruising.

Shag carpet! That's classic Mike! Thought that was reserved only for conversion vans! I'm thinking we need to see some of the photos you ARE NOT showing - like maybe bell-bottom jeans, big hair, platform shoes maybe??? Come on now, don't hold back on us

BTW: I have not changed those door panels with the chrome speakers - I love that period-correct look and get a bunch of comments on them at shows. That car really takes folks back to their high school days. Especially when they see the Steely Dan tape in the 8-track, and it just blows them away when I show them that it still works!
